Seventy-two years later a team of UK analyzed 6147 movies to prove that theory, and they found that every movie can be lumped into six categories.

In which storytelling category would you place your favorite movie?

Here is a demonstration of the concept: https://youtu.be/oP3c1h8v2ZQ

I probably made a ton of mistakes in the list, let me know if you find some.

cinephile,

This is an interesting concept for a poll. Kurt Vonnegut's proposed a theory is analogous to theories of form and formats of music.

May I humbly offer these suggestions?

IMDb prefers shorter titles. Please consider changing:
In which arc of storytelling is your favorite movie?

To:
Storytelling Arc for Your Favorite Movie

For future reference: When in doubt about capitalization, use this online tool:
https://capitalizemytitle.com/
Capitalize My Title
Enter your title and select:
"Title Case" and "AP".

= = =

Generally numbers should be spelled out at the beginning of sentences. Please correct the spelling of analyzed,

Please consider changing:
72 years later a team of UK analysed 6147 movies to prove that theory, and they found that every movies can be lumped into six categories.

The idea is interesting, but I'm not sure all the examples match their categories:

The Artist is a fall followed by a rise, I mean it's a come-back story and it can't be a fall with a happy ending, any picture with an unhappy ending would match...  except if it also features the rise

A rise followed by a fall, that's not On the Waterfront, Terry is a better human being at the end than at the start, the perfect example is Requiem for a Dream: rise then fall.

I replaced On the Waterfront by Requiem for a Dream, but I'm not sure about The Artist. The ending is not really a rise, and the movie is about the fall of the actor.

I might replace The Artist with another movie to avoid this type of confusion.

I replaced The Artist (2012) by Downfall (2004).

What a great idea for a poll! There's no caption under 'Requiem for a Dream' but once that's added, this seems like a near-perfect poll. Bravo!

May I suggest a few edits to the intro?

A team of UK scientists analyzed 6147 movies and found that every movie can be lumped into one of six categories.

(I'd suggest removing "Seventy-two years later" because the reader doesn't know what happened seventy-two years before; I removed "that theory" because you don't indicate what the theory is.)

__

I'm trying to decide which arc my favorite film follows: 'The Florida Project' is an interesting case because (spoiler alertin reality there's just a fall but the movie depicts a rise.after the fall, which I suppose could be interpreted as real. It's fascinating to think about films with such nuance and try to decide which narrative arc is followed. : )

You know your poll is a complete failure when None of the Above is the 2nd most voted proposition.

cinephile,

Your poll is NOT a failed experiment. Rather, it is an indication for the 120 people who answered your poll that they like a multitude of storytelling arcs. Other factors are more important to those 120 people.

Please note: We do not have a good reading on the demographics of the people who take IMDb polls. Results for these polls probably cannot be extrapolated beyond those taking the polls.

cinephile, don't mind the number of people who voted: it's a great, idea-centric poll that also will be educational for many people.
