Live Poll: A Season or Less, What a Mess...

These T.V. shows may have sounded like sure things, but they only lasted a season... or less. There are many reasons why a series can get cancelled; it doesn't always mean it's a terrible show. Which short lived series do you wish would've kept running?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls048217625/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/uuU7S1NaOKg/

Anything I missed?  Let me know!

You left out the one that will most likely get the most votes, unless you bury it at the end of your list
Firefly (2002) (TV Series)
It might get #2 if Swamp Thing can garner enough votes based off the freshness in peoples minds

I have 2 polls with firefly in it and it's the #1 pick in both.
Here's one, can't remember the other.

When I was young I really enjoyed Man from Atlantis (1977–1978) with Patrick 'Bobby Ewing' Duffy.

Narnia,

For your consideration:
Crusade (1999)
A team of soldiers and scientists has five years to find a cure for a plague decimating Earth.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusade_(TV_series)

...

Like Babylon 5, Crusade was intended to have a five-year story arc, although as Straczynski notes in the DVD commentary for A Call to Arms, it was intended to resolve the Drakh plague after a season or two and move onto other storylines. Conflicts arose, however, between the producers and executives at TNT, and production was cancelled before the first episode was broadcast.[1]

TNT's research had indicated that the audience for Babylon 5 did not watch other TNT programming, and likewise TNT's main audience was not watching the show, making another related program unattractive to the network's management. Straczynski believes that the network's "interference"[2] with the production was an attempt to get out of their contract by allowing them to argue that he failed to deliver the series they wanted....

I was a bit of a fan of Flashforward, The Event and The Cape. I missed the first runs of Day Break and Persons Unknown, but they turned out decent in the context of being able to binge the whole seasons on a streaming service. I think several of these suffered from having elements similar those in Lost (for the Dharma-like adversaries perhaps) at the same time as being eclipsed by Lost and Fringe for that matter. Maybe if Abrams had worked on them, they would have succeeded. Then again, this was all around (right before, right during or right after) that time of the writers' strike, plus these series seemed overbudget, like spending too much for famous actors, location shoots and visual effects.

FYC:
"Street Hawk" (1985)
"The Flash" (1990) - deeply influential, clearly cared much for source material and overall story, inspired the whole CW formula... And went down after one season because after a change of time slot views dropped dead. :(
"Vengeance Unlimited" (1998)

I second The Flash, from the early 1990s. I forgot about it, I must admit. The theme song was rather memorable.

Come to think of it, you may want to swap one of the ones I mentioned or so with Caprica. There are so many semi-decent series that were cancelled after (or even before) last episode of the first season aired, it's hard to decide.

'Some good series here. It's so weird that some, like "Firefly," "My So-Called Life," and "Freaks and Geeks," had such short runs. Good poll!

"I know, I've never seen Freaks and Geeks but I always heard of it and assumed it was a hit or something."

It only lasted 1 season, 18 episodes. It was cancelled after its 12th episode, and the remaining episodes were only released after a fan campaign demanded them.

The series suffered from relatively low viewership (an average of 6.77 million viewers  per episode), but was loved by critics and was nominated for three Emmy Awards. It has since maintained a devoted fanbase, and it sells well on DVD releases.

Its failure to find a larger audience is in part blamed  on NBC' "erratic scheduling" of its episodes (entire months passing before another episode was released) , and placing it on poor time slots. For a while it was competing against the most popular game shows of ABC.

I liked that television series. It had a pretty good cast, decent characters, and several ongoing subplots concerning the motives and political affiliations of the characters.

Ivan,
sorry, but the list is full and there's no room for Studio 60.

As far as good shows not making it, there's many reasons for it.  One of my favorites, Werewolf 1987, was cancelled because of production costs, not ratings. So, I feel the pain.  :)
