Live Poll: 25 Fictional Remakes by Other Directors

  • Updated 2 weeks ago
  • (Edited)
Intro:

I guess there is no movie dude, who never thought: "This movie should be remade". If there would be a nowerdays remake of one of these titles below, except for a new cast, a new director would have to be chosen. The director can be chosen on different matters, e.g. showing a new view on the story. Which of these fictional remakes below would you most likely want to be made? Please pick your favorite remake by also considering the mentioned titles of the filmographies and - of course - the mentioned benefit of it. Free your mind here.

Rules for Suggestions:

Only movies rated between 4.9/10 to 6.9/10

Form:

(Pick a movie)
Director:_______(Name the director of the movie which you wish to be remade)
Wish:_________(Name of the director you would suggest for the fictional remake)
Former titles: __(Examples of movies that show the abilities of your picked remake-director)
Benefit:________(Tell us why you would pick the director by explaining the benefit for the movie)

Good poll idea and some really interesting suggestions. I think a remake of Conan the Barbarian (1982) bus this time directed by Peter Jackson with some 'Lord of the Rings' elements would be quite fun to look forward to!

Thank you leavey. :D
I would have known more movies to be remade, but I also wanted to give some other people the chance to give me their ideas. I would be delighted if you had one or more ideas. I hope other people will join.

I'm totally stunned that this list got 216 views only today - In just 12 hours !
I guess it'll rain suggestions. ;)

It's a little cooling down, now. For 'Ready Player One, I say no! Spielberg did it with a favor and I can't see why the referrences should be pointless. That's a matter of age. I think Spielberg wanted to make it attractive for more than one generation.

But I'll add your other two suggestions. Thank you for them. :D

It has got a 7.1/10 from more than 24.000 people. I realized that the new youth became harder with every generation. When I was young, that kind of "cheesy"-ness was normal in movies made for the whole family. May I reword it a little? How about:
To modernize the story and keep to new standarts

Yes, I suppose that's what I mean!  The plot isn't bad, it's just the way it was made.  Humor was too lame and kid-aimed.  I wouldn't want a remake to be R-rated or gory or anything, maybe just a bit more dramatic?  I'll let you word it as you see fit, lol.  ;)

The plot is that a group of people come to a mansion, all with a history of being nearby when someone was brutally killed, and a expert must guess which one is really a werewolf.  It's a little like Ten Little Indians only with a creature.

To be fair, I also want to not always take the same director. I made the suggestion for also thinking about which director also could do that  even better. It's a little strange when there are not enough different directors. I know we ourselves had some doubeling. That's why I hesitate to put it on the list. I'm sure there would be some other directors than Branagh who could do the job as good or maybe better. But I'll put him on the list by deleting another option.

I do like the list very much, too. It seems to be ready. Since 560 views happened, I've a good feeling about it. My first list that went online as a poll now has 348 views. And that already counted 1477 votes. I think this current list will be a runner. Because of so many people are interestet in. Maybe I'll do a part II, if it's popular. I have the idea of any user one or maybe two suggestion(s), but then without the 25 limitation. For this one, the 25 limitation stays.
Btw:
That Aronofsky wish on 'Armageddon' is one of my favorites. It will stay on the list for sure! ;D

"560 views happened" is logically understood and THE reason between thinking people, however, one of my poll-suggestions having over 700 views was not approved in time, that's why I said "farewell" to the idea.
The reasons are actually beyond understanding but result from personal (not community) needs.

I wish you luck with this poll, let it be blessed.

Maybe you're right. But all in all I still think it's a good idea. I had it again and again, even 25 years ago - before knowing IMDb and the Internet. We sometimes philosophized some movies what about, if director x and cast y and and and ... were hired for the same movie. For me it's a pretty old idea and I like it pretty much. At least many people saw it and the idea is like a virus. You remember 'Inception'? Would be nice if it became a live poll. ;D

Mind games sometimes can be pure fun, specially when they hurt no one. So I've put in the word "fictional" to be clear that this thing is only a mind game.

I'm totally ok with the decisions. When there is a new Marvel movie, it's totally clear that Marvel movie polls have a boom. I think, it sometimes depends on what is up to date at the moment. When it's Star Wars, then you will have a better chance with a Star Wars poll suggestion. I think that's normal for an internet site that promotes the newest movies that come to cinema. And also the rememberance polls on older or real old movies are good. That's needed sometimes. So they do like they do - I'm ok with it. If not this month, maybe the idea will be picked up later. It's stored on the  websites.

It's completely another situation, and such kind of polls went live a year ago with no problems at all, but for other authors. It was upcoming movies, the list was based on long time investigation of what was of greatest interest (on IMDb and among professional critics) before releases. When the movies released, the intrigue part is blurred and spoiled, so it may be pulled to poll but without the most interesting part that was viewed by 700 users. That's why I tell you the statistics is for all, but the polls are for some )

Well, I love this idea and I hope it becomes a poll soon, another option that I found highly interesting was a remake of Alexander with Mel Gibson, i really detested the original movie, one of my favorite historical characters reduced to nothing, Mel Gibson has that air of creating a great story. I find it interesting because my friends and I talked a lot about this and we remember this movie, we suggested a couple of directors who would make this story beautifully, among them we named Mel Gibson obviously, but also Yorgos Lanthimos, may sound strange but is a very elegant director and although he does not have much experience in a genre like this I am almost sure he would not disappoint me, another name that I remember hearing in those conversations was Ridley Scott (Gladiator has an aesthetic that would fall to this movie wonderfully)

Thank you, Joe.
Oliver Stone is a provoker, so he highlighted the sexual relation of Alexander to his fellow Hephaiston. History told us, that the Greece people often had homosexual practics. At that time in history it was normal when a guy slept with his best friend. So Stone tried to show that relationship in 'Alexander'. He provoked the audience by showing that slightly (without any shown sexual act). Mel Gibson is the complete opposite. He is very straight, specially about his films. This part of Alexander would be completely left out. I'm ok with the raw methods he shows when it comes to 'Apocalypto' or 'Passion of the Crist'. Truth is always interesting. But I must admit, I would be a little sad to see history changed by Gibson, telling it so as there were no gay relationships in Greece. It's a little like cheating wrong on a history test. I just guess he would do so. But at all it would be interesting to see how Mel Gibson would "fake" history by showing Alexander as a straight only. ;)

Excluding these details, you could not do a deeper and more realistic exploration of your characters and their time, so it would be very sad if so much historical material was lost.

That's what happened in several Hollywood driven movies like '300', 'Clash of the Titans', 'Wrath of the Titans', 'Immortals'. These productions completely avoid to show anything like that, because it's reluctantly seen in domestic cinema. They all show men, that look like hardened steele of Greece, straight men that go to war and have no sexual relation to some other, like they were machines - only built to go to war and then die or marry. But that's not true. Most of these movies convey a wrong image of ancient greece people. Just look (historically) at the Olympics. The guys were naked while fighting under the sun. Wrestler just oiled each other to make the fight more exciting. And still ... Greece is the cradle of democracy.

Hi, Dracko. Nice, you joined. :D
I took a little hour and investigated because of your idea.
I guess this idea would move many people. When I think of the originals from
Trendle & Striker, which I found at the internet, I think it's been a kids story in the
first. They broadcastet about 3000 episodes on the radio and a daily comic stripe in the newspaper. Gore Verbinsky left a 2 hours 30 minutes kid story, which was all-in-all boring even though it had it's moments. A Tarantino story and cut wouldn't only tell a more intelligent story - I think it would also be nasty and provoking! It's an interesting idea to make a grown-up-only-story of it. But when I put this to the list, I first would make some modifications on the benefit-line. The line is a little simple for now. Tell me more about this idea.

Dracko,
I've put your suggestion on the list, 'Ben' (1972) had to flee to the other list.
Please tell me, if the Benefit line is ok for you. :D I changed it a little to
come more to the point. And I think the benefit-line is more teasing that way.

I haven't actually seen Armageddon, yet, but from what I know about it the pitch of an Aronofsky remake seems extremely tantalizing. Kudos to you for this awesome idea. (And I'm honestly down for anything Aronofsky makes anyway: his films may not always be perfect, but they're certainly never boring!)

Now for some pitches of my own:

------------

Godzilla (1954)
Director: Ishirô Honda
Wish: Darren Aronofsky
Former titles: mother! (2017), Noah (2014), The Fountain (2006)
Benefit: Ishirô Honda's original "Gojira" was a sobering look at Japan's political landscape of the time, as well as film with strong environmental themes. Since Hollywood is dead-set on revitalizing the Godzilla franchise in an American setting, they might as well let Darren Aronofsky take a crack at it. Aronofsky not only has experience directing a variety of genre films, but has a noteworthy track record of featuring environmental themes ("mother!", "Noah"), and could also bring his singular aesthetic sensibilities ("The Fountain") to make a distinctive, modern mark on the series.

------------

Slaughterhouse Five (1972)
Director: George Roy Hill
Wish: Charlie Kaufman
Former titles: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Synecdoche, New York (2008), Anomalisa (2015)
Benefit: Kurt Vonnegut's famed, absurdist novel "Slaughterhouse Five" was brought to the big screen in 1972... and yet it didn't make as much of an impact as it perhaps should have. Several years back, it was announced that Guillermo del Toro would produce a new adaptation from a script penned by Charlie Kaufman. Though the project fell through, there is nonetheless a good case to be made for Kaufman to not only pen the script, but to direct as well. For one, Kaufman's Academy Award-winning screenplay for the film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" demonstrates his aptitude for crafting non-linear narratives. Furthermore, his directing work on "Synecdoche, New York" and "Anomalisa" demonstrate his skill in communicating surrealist and absurdist elements.

------------

This is a really fun poll idea, thanks for sharing! Sorry if my descriptions are a bit wordy compared to the others, and if needed I can try to shorten them.

Logan's Run (1976) was an ambitious film for its time and had a huge budget behind it yet some of the effects even back then were terrible with noticeable models and perhaps the dodgiest robot design of all time with Box. There has been a remake planned which has been in production limbo and there have been similar movies like Michael Bay's The Island. To bring this fantastic sci-fi story to modern movie audiences I think Alfonso Cuarón would do a great job to give that Children of Men dystopian vibe which feels grounded in reality rather than the dated 1970's look of the future.

I'll put it to the list. Thank you for suggesting. The list lives from that.
If there will be not enough people suggesting their ideas, I would give
3 options per user. But for now it stays at 2 options per user. :)
