My vote goes to Zombieland (followed by Cabin In The Woods)

Zombieland is a comedy, not horror

Donald L. Langley, it's a horror comedy, which happens to be a subgenre of both. Wikipedia's main illustation for that genre is a promotional stunt for Zombieland (2009)

It's ok, I know that. Hearing someone talk, hearing  a question and answering before realizing, the person talked to his mobile. Maybe I should have marked it for Juan. But yes, I think 'Orphan' is a pretty good horror movie, Gitte. ;D

'Orphanage'- not to be confused with the mediocre 'Orphan'. Here's my Top 13 - https://www.imdb.com/list/ls095327925/

̈Jacobs Ladder" made in 1990. Its a great psychological horror that makes you think at times and went on to inspire some other great horror experiences like the ̈Silent Hill ̈ franchise.

Did you use any inclusion criteria? If so, it might be a good idea to indicate that either briefly in the intro or on this thread somewhere. If you don't have inclusion criteria, maybe change "best" to "favorite." : )

Dawn of the Dead for me. I think the best horror movies know how silly they are and aren't afraid to have a laugh along the way. I think the studios focus too much on trying to build tension in horrors today. Instead of creating an edge of the seat moment in a movie, they try to make edge of your seat movies with relaxation moments, and the whole thing just comes off as boring. The whole marketing behind the recent IT movie was trying to build tension before the movie was even released, and the end result was ultimately underwhelming.

I definitely think Let The Right One In should be on this list - that would get my vote.

So many great ones on this list.  Two of my personal favorites, Paranormal Activity (whole series) and Insidious (whole series) were riding low in the poll, so I went with one of them (Paranormal; could have just as easily been Insidious).  Other excellent choices on the list are The Orphanage, The Ring, Us, The Exorcism Of Emily Rose... a whole of them were excellent.  Just as great are some of the ones that didn't make the poll, including Freddy Vs. Jason, Let Me In, Trick R Treat, US, The Troll Hunter, Carrie, etc.  The 21st century has been great for horror.

These polls are biased. Nobody goes through the entire list. They pick one of the first three and surprise that's the one with the most votes.

Based on my enjoyment of the movies Ive seen on this list, my vote has to go to The Cabin In the Woods.
However, the list doesnt contain 3 awesome movies, wich I would pick over all of the ones Ive seen from this list.
Those are Martyrs (2008), Suspiria remake and The House That Jack Built (both from 2018).
