No sound on video clips

Clicking on a trailer or movie clip, it’s a 50/50 shot I’m getting sound. The latest clip I tried to view is 1917- the directors view (not the actual movie trailer) which plays out no sound.

hello there,

i think have the same issue.
all trailers start with sound MUTED.

- path: i visit the website, go to ANY movie title page, and click ANY trailer, then autoplay starts, but sound is MUTED.
- since: a couple of days ago.
- using (experienced): Chrome Version 79.0.3945.88 (Official Build) (64-bit) [on macbook pro]

-- happens too on safari, Version 11.1.2 (11605.3.8.1)
-- doesnt happen on firefox 70.0.1 (64-bit); there [autoplay does not start but] sound is NOT MUTED.

hope this helps.
good luck.
Best Regards!

Hi all..hope this helps everyone...

I just uploaded more demo reels to my IMDb profile page and now have 5 videos and 1 Trailer. All play fine on IMDb PRO site. - However on the normal IMDb site (yellow button) when I try to play the videos from the page the videos play but the player defaults to NO SOUND (the speaker shows a 'x'at bottom of video sound player). If I click on the 'x' the sound works fine.

But is there some way to alter the DEFAULT to PLAY sound normally on 'normal' IMDb site (like it does on IMDb PRO) so I dont have to take it off mute/no sound every time to hear it?  - PS My computer PC sound is ON all the time (not muted) so the problem would seem to be something to do with IMDb site Player ... I am using Windows XP and Firefox browser on 32bit (yeah I know its a dinosaur :!! :))

Try these links to my page:
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0101228/ - Normal IMDb (sound is OFF by default with 'X' by speaker logo on bottom of IMDb player.
https://pro.imdb.com/name/nm0101228/ - IMDb PRO - All videos play fine. Sound is 'ON' by default.

I have been a Pro User ion IMDb for many years but never noticed this until recently..

Look forward to comments...

Happy New Year to all...

I read some of the other comments and I hit "Audio, then changed to "stereo" and the sound started working. Hope this helps.

Trailers now have muted volume and no "X" to close and go back to the relative film necessitating use of the back button. Why?

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I've confirmed with our engineering team that at this time, the updates to the video pages are working as intended. In order to play the audio for the video, simply select the volume icon to unmute the audio.

I've forwarded this feedback to the appropriate team, and have updated this post to an "Idea" thread where this feedback can be reviewed by other IMDb staff and users.

Please let us know if we can offer any further help.

You've obviously missed the point of my initial comment. To reiterate: up until a few days ago, when you went to play a trailer it played normally. Then things changed. When playing a trailer the audio was pre-muted. In other words, you had to click on the speaker icon to get sound. This was Not and is Not as you say "video pages working as intended". This was either a glitch or an unintended tweak. It is totally unrealistic for a person to play a trailer and have to click on the speaker icon in order to hear it. It now appears this has been corrected and things are back to normal.

It has become a giant pain to watch trailers on IMDB. It is counter intuitive to have to enable the volume EVERY time on something you expect to have volume as soon as you click it. Please make the volume on by default. If i want it off I will turn it off.

My problem is the same as Jostian, went to IMDB for a trailer and there's no sound or any icons in the viewing window to enable sound. My Chromebook's sound works on Youtube, Netflix...etc.....

Hi Jostian and Sabrina,

You should be able to enable and control the volume on the player controls. If you're using a desktop computer please hover over the video and look to the bottom of the player for the controls. If you're using a mobile browser please simply click on the video while it's playing to see the player controls.

I've confirmed with our engineering team ... pages are working as intended... simply select the volume icon to unmute the audio.
Nobody wants to start trailer without sound. Also nobody wants to make additional clicking to enable sound on every page.

We, visitors, see this as bug. Looks like engineering team see this as intended feature. At least add additional feature to save sound mute status / level to cookie, so once we unmute, it would be same after page refresh. So engineers can watch muted videos, while other people watch normally with sound.

p.s. it is annoying.
p.s.s once some engineer confirms that its a bug, please add some priority to this.

I guess it is a good thing that the sound is muted by default.  To make it even better, why don't you just black out the video too, that way the blind and deaf ppl can enjoy your "new" feature.  This has got to be the dumbest move this site has ever done.

I see it as the rest of you here, it is not a feature, it is a bug. Why should I want no sound when I press the "play trailer" button??? And please bring back the "X" to close the video, too. Thanks.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled The audio for my talent reels does not work on my public IMDB page.

I have 3 talent demo reels on my IMDB page. There is no audio on any of them which of course kind of defeats the whole purpose of having them on there. I checked on my IMDB PRO page where they are on my "Your Page" section and they all work fine on that, but no audio on my IMDB page that the public sees. This is very frustrating to me. I would appreciate any help in solving this dilemma.

Sound is muted by default for trailers. The default setting should be changed back to sound on. Please adjust this annoying setting.

Yes, I totally agree! Turn the audion ON by default. And what is even more annoying to me, is missing "X" to close the player. If I watch a trailer to the end, and another video starts playing automatically and then another and so on... I have to click "back" button as many times how many videos I watched - extremely annoying! Please fix it!

( Windows 10 - google Chrome )

1) So I choose to watch a clip (which I am sure someone is paying to have on your site)

2) Start watching but NO SOUND

3) Pause the clip

4) Turn ON the OFF by default Sound.

5) Rewind the clip.

6) Play the clip again which now has sound - BUT I am frustrated.

I just wanted to watch a clip NOT have to go through 6 steps of frustration

This is a pain.  It's bad enough to have to watch previews of some animated film, but there is no way to turn sound on until requested clip starts.  I don't think I used to have this problem.  Please fix this.
