New version of IMDb advanced title search launched

We are pleased to launch a new version of the IMDb advanced title search today.  At the moment we have the same interface available at http://www.imdb.com/search/title with new software powering the results. In the long term we will be providing new, more powerful search options.

The new software is more up-to-date and more flexible than the old software.  Our aim is to make the search results backwards compatible, so in theory, the only differences between the old and new search results should be an improved layout and more timely results. However, with millions of bookmarks and entry points to the new search, it was not possible to cover every combination in testing ahead of the launch, sorry.

We have already seen reports of some issues and we are working on these now.  This thread will be used to gather all feedback and bug reports.

Please let us know here if you see anything unusual with the advance search results, thanks.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Advanced Search not working correctly.

If you click on "Warner Bros." under the Companies section, no titles appear in the result.

And why do I have to sign in to post this when I was already signed in to imdb, yet won't let me sign in to my original imdb account?  I have to create a stupid Facebook account too?  I've been using imdb since the 90s and this site is getting worse.

I'm really disappointed about the lack of comments to requests from myself and others to reset the compact view to the original look (ie. no covers and number of votes rather than ranking).  IT does appear that we are simply being ignored with our request.  If you're not going to reset this then simply tell us - obviously I think we'd all like this as a separate view option though.  Certainly this should have been one of the simplest questions that has been posed on the performance of the new search and would have been one of those "low hanging fruit" queries that were simple to answer; and yet it just gets ignored and ignored.  Not nice guys!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Random titles from advanced search url.

I used to find random movie titles from imdb advanced search url. What I mean is that when i clicked next page, in the url it showed the number of title of movie but now it show page 2 or 3 or 39 etc.. I used to change the title number in the url and I had a totally random movie to choose. Now I can only search until page 150. Thank you.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Problem with "advanced title search"..

The biggest problem since the arrival of the new advanced title search software persists. When I search for movies in IMDb rating order, the movies with the same rating number appear in popularity order instead. For example, if I want to know the best movies with the 6.9 rating, I want to know which ones are closer to 7.0 and which ones are closer to 6.8. But they will appear in popularity order. If I want to know the real rating order, I need to create a list and I don't want to do this every time I look for the exact rating order of a given group of movies. Please, fix it. This problem persists for months now. Thanks and sorry for my english.

In the old version of "Advanced title search" I saw the number of votes for each film when I selected "compact list". Could I see again this options, please?

Could you enter the link of the old version of "Advanced title search", please?
So we can choose between new and old version.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled IMDB primary language for movies issue.

I often filter IMDB movies by their "primary/main/first" language. For instance, the main language in the movie Inception is English but it also contains minor dialogue in French & Japanese. Before when I filtered for movies where the main language is Japanese IMDB would only show me movies where the main language is Japanese. However now when I do this IMDB displays all movies that contain Japanese dialogue; Suicide Squad and Inception for instance. There are only about 600 films on IMDB where the main language is Japanese. IMDB is showing me an additional 400 films that are not Japanese, but only contain snippets of Japanese dialogue in them.

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?=&languages=ja&num_votes=1000,&sort=num_votes&title...
A few months ago this link would return movies where only the main language is Japanese. Now it returns thousands of English movies where Japanese is only spoken in a few scenes. (Suicide Squad, Inception, Kill Bill, Life of Pi, The Wolverine, etc).

When I filter for movies where the primary language is English, IMDB returns a large amount of films where English is only spoken a few times in the movie. The same thing applies for other languages (Hindi, Cantonese, Spanish, etc.). Also, The Simpsons, an English cartoon that contains snippets of every language ever spoken throughout its 600+ episodes will now display for every language filter. It should only display when filtering for English...

Filtering movies by their main language is one of the main features I loved using IMDB for. This issue needs to get resolved ASAP, movies/TV shows need to be filtered by their main language only.

"Most Voted Titles You Haven't Seen" search still does not work.
It's pretty simple filter http://www.imdb.com/search/title?my_ratings=exclude&sort=num_votes,desc
Don't it?
Also it takes way too long on page load just to show "No results".

Please return the ability to remove criteria, I want to use !genres=Drama but it no longer seems to work, there is no work around functionality I can find either.

Bump.
Still the same, after 200 pages/10000 titles there is an 404 ERROR (http://i.imgur.com/tKb3NdZ.jpg), will this ever be fixed?
Thanks.
