We are pleased to announce an update to the image contribution experience. As of today, contributors can tag languages and countries in Posters. You will see the new fields in the image contribution interface once 'Select A Type' is changed to'Poster'.

If an image is a poster you can tag it with the countries where the poster might be displayed. For example, many studios create a localized version of a movie poster to be shown in a specific country or region. This poster for Star Wars (1977)was created specifically for the release of the movie in Japan and could be tagged with Japan for the country

If an image is a poster you can tag it with the languages represented in the poster. For example, this image for A Prayer Before Dawn (2017) has both English and German text visible in the poster and both languages should be tagged.

You can add a new Poster with language and/or country tags or add them to existing Posters already on IMDb. Both fields are optional. IMDb is passionately committed to providing new ways for our users to engage with our content and we appreciate your continue support of IMDb.

Will the tags affect which posters are displayed on IMDb now, or does that come later?

The concept "an option with no effect" is detrimental in many ways.

We will be displaying tagged languages and countries on IMDb in the near future. No specific product plans or timeline to announce at this time.

Sorry, but displaying tagged languages and countries means nothing to the end users. A user needs no reminders that the language he/she knows is a language of his/her knowledge, just because it is printed on a poster ))

If the final idea of the whole process is to display a localized poster according to the user-profile preferences, it would be great to see THAT working, not the tags displaying. When it actually works, a contributor is motivated to make more scrolls to find the country and the language for a poster. A massive contributor has no desire to see all efforts frozen for a long time, and then again needs a new announcement on this matter.

Thank you.

Merry Christmas to all !

BTW. Tagging languages need no explanations, but countries... What if people start tagging a hundreed of countries just because they think a diaspora speaking the language exists in each country?
