Need help finding non-English film!

A couple of years ago, my mother rented out a dvd from a local library, and as it often happens, turned out to be a different language. I don't remember the language, though it could possibly be German or French. The main things I remember about this film is that it was a cast of kids, possibly an adventure film. I don't think it was set in modern times, as there's one scene where a kid is bathed in a metal bath, possibly during war times. The ending shows someone (Main kid girl, I think) getting sent off. There was possibly something to do with chalk.
Thanks for any help!! This has really been bothering me for ages.

Hi, paige.

Was it an all-children cast (no grown-ups), or just some kids were involved?

In parallel, since it was rented in a public library, we can assume it is some kind of an "author film" or art film.
Nevertheless, for French films alone, I can think of several that could fit. We would definitely need more leads (even though MA does not need so many :)

What City does it show? Any actor-names? What did the cover look like? Playing time? Any phrase you can recall? Any further detail you can tell might be the weight that cracks the nut - maybe. ;)
From what you mentioned I think it could be a war movie. 'The Diary of Anne Frank', maybe?

It seems to me, the original poster is looking for a different language (not English) movie.

Yes, but  it might be the story that can trigger the memory, too. I just thought maybe he/she reads the longer synopsis and get's triggered by other elements of the film. So it could be another Anne-Frank film. There are dozens, I guess. Maybe it might be one of the series? Was it a jewish girl? The language might be Dutch? That sounds like a mix of French and German.
