Name change not accepted

I'm trying to change a name for a friend of mine, Àdhamh Ó Broin, but IMDB won't let me change it to that. First it says the Ó can't be an upper case letter, next it says it can't be a lower case letter. His name actually is Àdhamh Ó Broin, with an upper case Ó, his name is written in Scottish Gaelic. Please let me make the change to his name, so he's credited properly on IMDB. you can check on the internet.  His name apparently has been written wrong at some point in a credit and that is why it's written the way it is on IMDB (being Àdhamh O'Broin). And I have another question about this as well...

If I check this field:  Preserve previous name on existing credits. i.e. '(as Àdhamh O'Broin)'
And check this one: Correct the name to 'Ó Broin, Àdhamh' - do not merge it with another name.

And you DO change his name to the proper spelling, will his existing credits not disappear?

Hi Catrìona -

Your friends name has now been corrected on the site, see here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5690931/
(unfortunately, the Update form is finicky with certain name corrections, such as this one)

To answer your second question, yes, check-marking that box ('Preserve previous name on existing credits') will ensure that his credits under the other name will remain listed, so they will not be removed.

Cheers!

Hi Michelle,
I guess now that you have changed the name, I don't need to do anything anymore?
Thank you so much, he'll be very happy!

He also asked me to put my name in the biography as the writer of it. I can't find out how I can do that... Can you help me out there?

Thanks again!

Hi Catrìona - You're welcome!

To update the Bio, start on the page here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5690931/bio/ and click on the yellow 'Edit Page' button.
Within the update form, select to 'Correct/Delete' from the Biography drop-down:

Click on the 'Continue' button.  On the next page, from the 'Action" drop-down select 'Correct' and click on the "Check These Updates" button:

You will then be able to update the Bio content, specifically, changing the name within the "By" field.  Follow the remaining form instructions to provide your explanation and submit.

Thank you! Got it and asked for the change :)

Just one last thing. His name is now stated correctly, but when I changed the biography, I saw that it says Àdhamh O'Broin still (go back to Àdhamh O'Broin, etc). Does that take a while longer to update?

Some bios are automated and I'd expect them to change after the name change updates, generally.

But, his was authored by someone. If you haven't also added a submission to correct that entry, it won't change.

Same, you'd click the "edit page" and go to the bio and change it there.

Just one more thing, or rather three, came up now... I've sent a link to a picture page from the official fansite of his, so that a picture could be added. This has been about a month ago and I haven't seen any addition of a picture to his profile. I didn't get any message about it either. What's wrong?

I have also written to the helpdesk on December 10th, and still no reply or anything. Is that normal?

He has also told me that the documentary listed on his profile has his name written wrongly. He said he's 100% positive that (as him being a co-producer) his name is written correctly in the documentary and asked me if I could so that this is changed to Àdhamh Ó Broin instead of Àdhamh O ́Broin. I'm guessing that the misspelling of his name here, has to do with the same issue why I couldn't change his name either? Could you please correct his name to the correct spelling?

I'd love to hear from you on all 3 accounts :) Thank you!

There are currently two shots added to the External Sites subpage. If you submit links via the Update forms, this is how they show up. The pictures are not actually hosted on IMDb or shown on its site, only linked to.

The only way he can get a Headshot  or other official pictures is to pay for a Pro subscription and then 'claim his page'. This will allow up to 100 pictures - one of which may be designated as a headshot (primary picture). But those pictures will be removed from the displayed page if the Account is cancelled or allowed to lapse. Only he or his authorized representative is permitted to 'claim his page'.

By the way, if a submission is rejected, the submitter is not notified of that fact. IMDb is currently working to change this, and now does allow the submitter to track New Title submission.. Other types will be added in the future, but they aren't there yet.

When a primary Name Correction needs to be done, normally it is because the person was actually credited under that name, but normally uses a different one. Checking the box beside Preserve previous name on existing credits causes (as ...) attribute to be added to the credits. Currently such an attribute is part of the Credit for We Are Northern Lights, If the credit actually shows his name as Àdhamh Ó Broin , then you should submit an update to that credit, removing the (as Àdhamh O'Broin) attribute.

However, co-director (without further limitation) is not normally a Miscellaneous Crew credit, but rather a Director credit. Therefore the credit should probably be moved. You would do this be submitting an Add credit to Director and a Delete of the current credit in the same submission. Include the fact that you are adding it to Director in the required explanation for the Delete.
