This is in reference to my submitted update #171031-190020-188000.
The 2017 season of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" should properly be considered just the latest season of the original show. It is referred to as Season 11 and continues the overall episode count of the original show. If for some reason, you feel there is a need to separate the two production runs into two shows, the title of the series is still "Mystery Science Theater 3000", as that is the title that appears on screen. "Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return" is purely a promotional title used by Netflix to differentiate the new season (a "Netflix Original") from the older episodes they also stream.
Attached is a screen shot from the first episode of the 2017 season that shows all the points I made. The show is referred to as "Mystery Science Theater 3000" by the VHX website. Only "Mystery Science Theater 3000" appears onscreen (and is mentioned in the theme). There is no reference to "The Return".
The episode is referred to as 1101, indicating the first episode of Season 11. (Actually the twelfth season, since the first season is typically referred to as Season 0 or Season K.)
The episode is also referred to as "Show 198", indicating the 198th overall episode, covering all preceding episodes, including Season 0.
So, the show is either the next season of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" (1988) or the first season of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" (2017).
