My User Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947)

After submitting more than 150 IMDb film reviews, I have never been declined until I attempted to write a review for this film.  After my first review was declined, I re-read the guidelines.  The last guideline states the following:

"Do not include personal opinions on real life events or subject matter on which a film is based".

I have read many instances in which IMDb reviewers expressed their personal opinions about the subject matter on which the film is based.  Very often, the personal opinion of the reviewer on such subject matter is an integral and meaningful part of the review and inseparable from the film itself.

In consideration of this final guideline, I re-wrote the first review and eliminated all words that may have transgressed this final guideline. My second, much condensed review strictly addressed the film itself, including many of the weaknesses that I recognized, even though it actually won Oscars for best picture and best director in 1948.   The director, Elia Kazan, even admitted that it was not his best effort, in spite of the Oscars, and that Gregory Peck was miscast for the lead role.  In spite of its Oscar success, my review of this film was quite negative, but I don't believe that should be a reason for being declined--twice!!!

I am interested in the experiences and views of other IMDb reviewers, specifically those of you have had reviews declined for unexplained reasons and why you believe this has happened to me twice for the same film.  I do notice that my reviews of films on certain topics that IMDb may deem to be of a "sensitive" nature take much longer to be approved than those of other films. Thank you for any assistance in my attempt at understanding this situation

Thanks Michelle.  I appreciate your help. The first was 190426-183524-529704 4/26/19
The second was 190429-152737-111804.

They were fairly negative reviews of a film that actually won best picture and best director Oscars in 1948.  In the second attempt, I made a special, conscious effort to stay away from personal opinions of the subject matter on which the film was based, but I have seen that situation in many reviews that have been approved by IMDb, so I was surprised, if this was the reason for both declines. Regards, Frank Wiener

Hi Michelle. Thanks again for your response.  I re-submitted my original review of "Gentleman's Agreement", and it was declined again!  That makes it my third effort to review this film that was declined.  The reason for the decline was "submission conflicted with one or more of our (IMDb) guidelines".  I have submitted more than 150 reviews to IMDb and this has never happened even once before.  I know for a fact that reviews of films on certain subjects take much longer to be approved. I have found this to be the case regarding any film on a Jewish-related topic, including "The Diary of Anne Frank", "Exodus" and "Night and the Fog"..  As a Jew, I find this very bizarre and even unacceptable.  Although this film won the Oscar for best picture, I found it to be very flawed for several reasons, especially the poor, lethargic script and the gross mis-casting of the leads.  When I observe some of the very poorly written reviews on this website that have been approved, this repeated "decline" is even more troubling to me.  Thanks again for your interest. The latest submission was #190515-144027-024704.
