Moving standalone title to episode

Could an admin look at the following submissions, because the change that has occurred is not the one I submitted.

There are a number of standalone titles which should be episodes of a TV series "Modern Times" (1995) tt0783864

I submitted title changes, quoting entries on the BBC Genome site which is listings of historical issues of the Radio Times listings magazine.

200730-114102-775000
  • "Modern Times: Tory Wives" (1996)
    • Title Correction - Add
      • Correction: "Modern Times" (1995) {Tory Wives (#2.2)}

200730-115339-369000
  • Modern Times: The Lido (1995) (TV)
    • Title Correction - Add
      • Correction: "Modern Times" (1995) {Lido (#2.5)}

200730-192711-961000

  • "Modern Times: Jurors" (1999)
    • Title Correction - Add
      • Correction: "Modern Times" (1995) {Jurors (#5.8)}

However in each case the title has been renamed so as to remove the "Modern Times: " prefix, but leaving the title as standalone - eg Jurors (1997- ) tt9001920.

200730-141024-410000

  • The Flickering Flame (4.10) (1996)
    • Title Correction - Add
      • Correction: "Modern Times" (1995) {The Flickering Flame (#4.10)}

That was a follow-on to an earlier attempt to rename the title in which I accidentally missed out the #: "Modern Times" (1995) {The Flickering Flame (4.10)}.

Is there something different that I should be doing to make these changes happen? Should I have created new blank episodes for "Modern Times" (1995) {Tory Wives (#2.2)} etc and then linked each standalone to its episode once the episode existed?

Hi Martin - in this case I believe the best method is to create new episodes for Modern Times and then submit a merge request for the orphaned episodes. If you have any trouble with this process please let me know.

Thanks for the advice. I've created the dummy episodes and requested the standalone titles to be merged into them (quoting the BBC Genome Radio Times listings as proof):

200804-181544-583000 (episode 2.2) and 200804-181800-756000 (episode 2.5).

Let's see if it works...

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled I may need help in correcting episode numbers for a TV series.

I'm trying to renumber several episode numbers for the series
Modern Times
(1995-2015).

Someone added episodes 2.1, 2.3 and 2.4 with the wrong season number. I need to renumber those episodes so I can add the real episodes with those numbers.

I may have made matters progressively worse :-( Could an admin check that I haven't thrown a metaphorical spanner/wrench in the works by my successive changes...

In 200730-113718-064000, 200730-113747-166000 and 200730-113818-560000, I removed the episode number altogether, with an explanation saying that season 2 was clearly wrong but I didn't yet know the correct season - for example

  • "Modern Times" (1995) {Warwick Davis's Big Night (#2.1)}
    • Episode Title / Number - Correct

      • Old -
        Parent: "Modern Times" (1995)
        Title: Warwick Davis's Big
        Night
        Number: 2.1
        New -
        Parent: "Modern Times" (1995)
        Title:
        Warwick Davis's Big Night

When those changes had no effect for several hours (when renumberings of epsodes with no previous number were processed quickly) I tried again, this time giving the episodes specific numbers to an arbitrarily large season number, 15: 200730-154247-943000, 200730-154325-429000 and 200730-154402-846000. Again, no effect after many hours.

Episode Title / Number - Correct

  • Old -
    Parent: "Modern Times" (1995)
    Title: Warwick Davis's Big
    Night
    Number: 2.1
    New -
    Parent: "Modern Times" (1995)
    Title:
    Warwick Davis's Big Night
    Number: 15.1

Now I've worked through all the episodes, I know the correct season, so I've submitted a third set: 200731-123653-128000, 200731-123835-578000 and 200731-124041-335000, with explanations of what I'm doing and quoting the earlier submission numbers to say "ignore those" - for example
"Modern Times" (1995) {Warwick Davis's Big Night (#2.1)}
    • Episode Title / Number - Correct

      • Old -
        Parent: "Modern Times" (1995)
        Title: Warwick Davis's Big
        Night
        Number: 2.1
        New -
        Parent: "Modern Times" (1995)
        Title:
        Warwick Davis's Big Night
        Number: 12.1

Can an admin check that this final set of submissions will go through OK, to make way so I can add the real epsodes 2.1, 2.3 and 2.4.

It's a shame that episode-renumbering is one of the few changes which isn't yet covered by Track Contribution, so I don't know whether there is soem reason why my earlier submissions were rejected.

Could you also check submissions 200730-114102-775000, 200730-115339-369000, 200730-141024-410000 and 200730-192711-961000 where I've renamed standalone titles to be episodes of this series - for example

  • Modern Times: The Lido (1995) (TV)
    • Title Correction - Add

      • Correction: "Modern Times" (1995) {Lido
        (#2.5)}

with an explanation that it's an episode, and quoting the relevant programme listing from the BBC Genome site which is an OCR copy of historical issues of the Radio Times listings magazine.

Again, since this is not covered by Track Contribution, I don't know whether the delay is to be expected or whether these have been silently rejected.

Just to round things off, I can report that the renaming of the standalone titles to episodes of the series has worked perfectly. Thanks to the admins who gave me useful hints: I'll remember if I need to do it again that the trick is to create the empty episode first and then rename the standaline title to this empty one once it has been created.
