I've seen several examples of this, one which stands out big-time is with The Martian, where it has been used (or abused) several times atop this page:
Can this be addressed, please, as it's unfair. Or if it won't be, shall I
just do the same? (as they say "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em")
PS. I know there's a way to attempt to highlight these on the individual pages and ask for their removal, but that requires going on 'correct' for each individual link and following all the steps and it'd be way too time consuming to cover them all.
Thanks for your report, for External Reviews, we do allow the listing of the website name, however, I have forwarded your comments to our data editors to review to make sure that the listings you pointed out are listed as per our policy. As soon as I hear back from them about the listings you reported, I will let you know here.
These people are giving an "A ", but taking the "P" ;)
I'll look forward to hearing back from you.
The ticket I filed is still pending review by our Data Editors, so unfortunately, I don't have an update on our policy yet. As soon as I get confirmation, rest assured that I will post the information here.
As The Martian link shows, there are many doing this, including one who uses numbers so that his rises above all the others! Come on, we need action on this!!!
Back in October when I reported this to our data editors they confirmed that we didn't have the resources at that time to address this issue. I have reached out again to get an ETA as to if this will be addressed in the near future. I will post the relevant status here as soon as I get a response form our editors.
I tried posting on the previous thread about this, but you've closed it and it is NOT solved.
There are still plenty of pages, like The Martian, which are full of the
'A...' problem, and while I haven't seen any new 'A ...' posts lately, some
jokers are still doing the same thing but replacing it with 'At ....' so
the problem is still there. Can't you just nuke the links made by those
who are not following the rules, please?
In addition, there's a site called A Big Spark which are just creating links yet, there's no review there. It just says "coming soon" on the webpage.
Thanks for your note, I am checking on the status of the clean-up with our data editors, as soon as I hear back I will let you know here.
In the meantime, I noted that the External Review you reported for "A Big Spark" on the "Jason Bourne" title page has since been removed. Anytime you see these types of External Reviews posted, it's best to report them for removal through our online form.
The only problem with reporting for removal is that each one has to be done individually. Given that some wrongdoers have moved on from 'A ...' to 'At ....' , it shows that they know their time is running out, but I was hoping for a way to obliterate them all in one go.
Thanks again for looking into this. Dom
I'm just following up here to confirm that we have made changes in our system to detect any future misleading External Reviews from being accepted and going live on the site.
Unfortunately, for those External Reviews that were added prior to these system changes, we don't currently have the staff bandwidth for a bulk clean-up, however, anytime you encounter these misleading website names on a title page, please report them for deletion and our staff will review them and take the applicable action.
This really isn't working, Michelle. Loads of fakes beginning 'A....' are still being posted. I've deleted a few and I'm sure you can check the logs for that, but as well as some of the usual offenders, there's sites like Vidzarena and MovieRoster who are posting links but naming the site total nonsense like A.A.alan and Aalvin (which is a site posting pages that don't even exist), and when it comes to MovieRoster, these aren't even reviews, they're just plot summaries. I've deleted those, but again, you can check the logs.
Please can you sort this. Since you've marked this 'solved', I'm feeling I'll have to submit a brand new thread about this?
Best thing would be to force moderation on anything beginning 'A' or a number.
As Michelle said previously, we have put a fix in place that you will have noticed catches the majority of these cases. You'll see that examples you provided previously are no longer contributing to this issue.
I have however opened a new ticket with our data editors to review the rules we currently have in place and see if we can make amends to catch further issues. In the meantime I recommend submitting corrections or deletes for any misleading website names and our data editors can review and take any appropriate action.
There's also a site called "Darren's World of Entertainment" who used to post as "A Darren's World of Entertainment Piece", but once they got stopped with that, they now call them "At Darren's World of Entertainment", thus still making a mockery of the system.
I think what needs to happen is that any name instance beginning with "A..." needs to be put into a moderation queue unless it can be verified and whitelisted, eg. there's a site called "A Big Spark", so they're entitled to do it.
