Merged profiles--which roman numeral belongs to me

My profile has been merged with an occasional colleague of the same name. Looking into the split names option how do I know who has the original listing and its attached Roman numeral? Many thanks in advance.

Nick: You should have the roman numeral you had before, and the other Nick Brown should have the roman numeral he had before.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. The difficulty I have is that I don’t know which one of us is the rightful owner of the merged identity and also I’m not sure also where to split name the other profile to.

Nick,

Because the profiles were merged, the previous Roman numeral from one page will not be recovered. So you'll need to create a new name page with a new Roman numeral, which will be decided during the submission process.

One other thing to consider. Are the credits on the name page for you and the colleague in the same department or spread out in different departments? A contributor or an IMDb representative could provide a more specific answer if you can post a link to the name page and identify which titles within the filmography belong to you and to the other person.

GMJ: Are you sure about that? I am not certain, but I would think that if (for example) one person was (V) and the other person was (VI), and IMDb mistakenly merged them into one entry with roman numeral (V), they could un-merge the people and give back the roman numeral (VI) to the one who had been (VI) before, assuming that (VI) had not already been re-assigned.

Hi Nick -

Please clarify what page your credits are currently listed under on the site and our staff can take a look.

Hi Michelle
Apologies for taking so long to reply. The page I refer to is https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1353945/?ref_=nv_sr_4
I am Nick Brown (1st AD) and have a listing on IMDB as Nick Brown (LIV) which has only 2 jobs that i worked on. I think originally I was Nick Brown VII but that seems to have changed also.
All the 1st AD credits on the above link should belong to me. I've tried to contact you guys before via the edit / correct options on the above page but nothing has changed.
Many thanks if you are able to get this sorted out.
Thank you & Best wishes

Nick

Nick: If the Nick Brown (LIV) page at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm7607905/ has only your credits and nobody else's, you might as well consider that to be your page and just focus on getting any credits that are elsewhere moved over there. I don't think there is anything that can be practically done about getting your old roman numeral back, now that it is in use for someone else.

If every single credit in the Second Unit Director or Assistant Director section on the Nicholas Brown (V) page at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1353945/ is yours, here is how to move those credits to the Nick Brown (LIV) page:

Go to the Nicholas Brown (V) page at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1353945/. Click "Edit page".

On the next screen, on the Name Split line, select "Add split". Scroll down and click "Continue".

On the next screen, there will be four lines each reflecting an occupation currently listed on the Nicholas Brown (V) page. You are only concerned with the Second Unit Director or Assistant Director Credits line. On that line, in the "Move to" menu, select the option for "Other (use box)". Then, in the blank box to the immediate right, enter your name as:
Brown, Nick (LIV)

For the "Update existing credits with 'as'" box, you should check that box if you were sometimes credited as Nicholas Brown, but don't check the box if you were always credited as Nick Brown.

On the remaining three lines -- Producer Credits, Production Manager Credits, and Other Crew member Credits -- don't do anything. Leave them showing "Don't move [Brown, Nicholas (V)]" in the menu.

In the Explanation box, enter something like "I am Nick Brown (LIV), and most of my credits as a first assistant director were erroneously merged to the page of Nicholas Brown (V). All of the credits in the Second Unit Director or Assistant Director section of the Nicholas Brown (V) page are mine, and so these credits need to be split off. None of Nicholas Brown (V)'s credits in other departments are mine." Click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, your data should appear with a blue-green background, and you should be able to click "Submit these updates".

Allow a few days for the corrections to go through. Good luck!

Nick: Please post your last full data submission here on this message board. You can copy it out of the receipt you would have received from IMDb by e-mail immediately after sending it in. Some of the regulars on the board may review it and, if they can, they may provide suggestions as to how to improve the submission to get it included in the database. (Also, please include the submission reference number -- it's an 18-digit number that will look something like 180123-123456-789000.)

Hi Nick -

To clarify before making any changes, the only credits that need to be moved are the credits listed under the 'Second Unit Director or Assistant Director' section, is that correct?
