May Have Duplicated Names

Hi, I just finished adding about a hundred names from the credits for a film I worked on and, after finishing, realized I may have duplicated names that already exist. When entering a name, and the system doesn't come back with any similar names, I often chose the new person option instead of the "let imdb decide" option. The only reason I'm concerned now is that late in the process I saw that the same person had two pages, and the system didn't catch either of them to ask me if it was that person. So now I'm concerned that there may have been a few people the system didn't catch, and I selected the new person option. Hope this makes sense. Please help.

It isn't a big problem, as long as you go through and check the credits after this has all gone through. Staff might catch some of these slips and assign it to the right person, but checking through the credits when you go live is something you should always do anyway - staff can catch slips like this and assign the credit to the right people, but it also means that (very occasionally) they can assign it to the wrong person. So always check.

If duplicate pages are created, you can merge them with the right person like this:

http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?namemerge

If it goes to the wrong person edit it and enter the right name (including Roman numerals - but you can usually also use the name constant - the ID starting "nm").

What if Iwhen I go back to check and don't know if it's the same person or not? Does imdb staff have a better way of determining that than I have access to?

Not really, if they do think there is a better person, then they might intervene when processing the submission and change it to someone else. If you don't know if it is the right person, then there isn't much you can do - as data is crowdsourced, people have to check their own credits and ensure they are correct.

You wouldn't know how I would add a live performance in the film by a band, would you?

Usually that'd depend on the credits - whether they are listed as a band or individuals as part of the band. So you might have:

Aerosmith

or:

Steven Tyler - Aerosmith

See, for example:
