cinephile,

Great poll!

I'm inclined to vote for Rita Moreno. However, there are many acting legends on your list so I could easily change my mind.

Your gonna leave out Bob Hope for them?

They played leading roles and have been in the film industry longer than Bob Hope, Karl Maden, and Anthony Hopkins. There is no objective reason to ban them from the list.

For what motif should I ban them?? On the basis that they are Indian and some speculations saying that they won't get any votes, I can't do that, I'm gonna look racist.

They will get little votes.
That is not racism. That is fact.
Then make a poll with little or totally unknown actors. They are only known in one and only one country.
Everyone else on your list is well known worldwide.
It IS your poll and you can do whatever you like. If it was mine I would never have entertained putting them in. I would have rejected them on the votes they will not get. Not because of where they come from.

Also you cannot just determine who is on the list based on the total of years.
If I had to make a choice, Charles Lane would be out before I ever would consider removing Bob Hope.
Removing Bob hope was a bad call.
You should consider an actors starmeter.
By the way those three Indian actors starmeter numbers I would venture to say would be the bottom 3 on your list.

FYC: Alan Arkin, he has 63 years and counting if you count a small uncredited role as a singer in 1957, otherwise he's out.

Dick van Dyke, 63 and counting

Gloria Henry, 65 years

Earl Cameron, 62 years

Johannes Heesters, 87 years

Milton Berle, 86 years

Curt Bois, 84 years

Gisele Casadesus, 83 years

The list was going overboard, so I changed the criteria.
These are the current rules:

1) Played leading roles in several movies

2) 60 years or more of career

3) In the Top 5000 of popularity.

If the list hits the 35 option maximum again, the next actors to go are the ones that began or ended their career with uncredited roles such as Tippi Hedren and Alan Arkin.

He spent more time out of the top 5000 than in.

You should consider an actors starmeter.

Then you should not be making a poll of this type.
Your knowledge is limited.
So pro is required to make a list that makes sense.
I gave you a really great list with highly recognizable Stars, and you trashed most of them based on CURRENT Starmeter numbers only.

This Idea can have 3-4 really good polls.

This one can be for popular actors.

You can have one that is strictly for character actors with over XXX credits and the highest number of active years.

And I can see three more.

But it's your idea. You figure it out.

His Starmeter Numbers. See the difference? Erdeman does not hold a candle to this actor you pulled. Erdman has exactly Zero Awards and no star on the Walk of Fame.

And the actor we're referencing is NOT Bob Hope!

After thinking, I have come to a conclusion.

It would be stupid to exclude Bob Hope only on his STARmeter, as you pointed out he maintained great popularity during decades.

So this is what I think, there is only one actor with the minimum 60 credits in this list. (Anthony Hopkins). I believe that I could raise the criteria to "More than 60 years long acting career" in this way Anthony Hopkins is sadly discarded from the list, but I obtain a more justifiable reason to exclude Bob Hope.

I think that you will be disappointed, but this is the fairest solution that I found.

Did you not read this below the last Starmeter chart?????????????

And the actor we're referencing is NOT Bob Hope!
If you cannot figure out how to do this poll justice nor take really good advice when given, that will be the last recommendation I give you.
Put in those 3 actors that Bonefide gave you. I'm really sure they can get more votes than Bob Hope and our Oscar Winner KARL MALDEN.

And last advice.
Take it.
The actor must have been in the top 5000 for over 20+ years.
Richard Erdman IS OUT with these rules. It eliminates spikes due to an actor passing away and the almost automatic starmeter spike that accompanies it.

Anthony Hopkins

Karl Malden

Bob Hope

Their careers weren't long enough. It is disappointing, but that is it.

If you have any other actors that have +60 years of acting career tell me.

BTW, you can dream if you want, but I won't withdraw a poll suggestion to satisfy your exigences.

Ok fine I did as you suggested, I added the "More than 20 years in the Top 5000 of the STARmeter." criteria and removed the "More than 60 years acting career".

I have removed Richard Erdman and added Anthony Hopkins, Karl Malden, Bob Hope.

Tell me now if there is a mistake in the list, I will have to believe IMDbpro members because I can't verify myself.

CARL NOT in the Top 5000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yikes!
Your instincts should automatically tell you Carl should be in the most popular.
He is a shoe in. He is at 5600 right now. But he easily meets the 20 years. If IMDb's starmeter existed in the 1950s through the 1990s, Carl would have been n the top 5000 for 50 years.
