It is missing one of the top WWI heroes, the soldier Anibal Milhoes from the Portuguese Army Forces, who alone was capable of sustaining the German front attack for 3 days, jumping from machine gun "Tommy" to another, he could gave the impression to the Germans that a full army was still very alive and facing them. When finally the attack stopped, he was even able to save a Scotish medical soldier from being drowned and even took a little girl from a bombing wreckage and delivered her in her village neighbours. When he finally met his army companions he didnt  even talked about it. It was the Scotish soldier who told this unique, unbelievable event to the British army and then they told it to the Portuguese officers. Afterwards he received the highest militar condecoration once the Portuguese army gave in many centuries of wars! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExG9QMS-U8I  http://www.bodahub.com/anibal-milhais-soldier-millions/  Later, the Germans started advancing over the fields of La Couture. The fields were crowded with people. On the front line they came dressed as Portuguese. They had captured our soldiers and were using their uniforms. As I wasn’t sure, and I had seen five Scots, I went to ask them to do some reconnaissance. Then I ran back to the shelter. When I arrived, the soldiers already were at the top of La Couture, on motorcycles and with tall helmets. Then I was sure they were German. I opened fire and the invaders fell. An hour later another invasion. Again I opened fire, before they could even reach their previous position. A machine gun fires a lot. But later, another invasion came. It wasn’t as big. I cut it down too. I didn’t see Germans after that.

When tales of his achievements spread, Commander Ferreira do Amaral told him as a pun, “És Milhais, mas vales milhões,” meaning “You’re Milhais, but you’re worth millions.

The name stuck. Milhais was called Soldado Milhões or “Soldier Millions.” His actions earned him the highest national  honour of the Portuguese: Military Order of the Tower and of the Sword, of Valour, Loyalty, and Merit – with the French Légion d’Honneur delivered on the battlefield before 15,000 allied soldiers.
