Is there any reason why key words search doesn't work on imdb for adult titles even when you turn the adult filter off?

I know this issue has come up before but since this problem has been a constant issue for years now, at this point it'd be nice to hear from imdb officially if this is something the site will try to resolve/fix at some point or if this is the imdb's intentional de facto status quo from now on and part of some unwritten rule of theirs. It's kind of frustrating when you're kept in the dark for years on an issue that doesn't seem to be all that controversial. Any explanation/answer will do at this point.

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Can you please provide us with further details regarding the issue you're experiencing with the keyword search so that we can investigate further?

Thank you in advance.

Hi, thanks for replying. Here's an example of this notorious problem. Let's say I type in "james-bond-spoof" in the imdb search field and select "keywords" as the qualifier. I will then get the following result:  james-bond-spoof (262 titles). However, when I then click on this keyword to get the listing of these 262 titles I get a list with only 245 titles instead. That's because the missing 17 titles are all adult films like for example Jane Bond (1975), an adult spoof that got automatically removed from the listed results due to its pornographic content even though it has the term james-bond-spoof among its keywords and despite my enabling the option on imdb's website that allows the search function to list adult titles together with the non-adult titles in my searches. In other words, the website's search function "sees" this keyword and counts it when it compiles the list of movies that contain it but then it removes all adult titles with the keyword from the actual listing that shows you by name which movies contain it. Other people have had the same problem ever since the imdb had its big overhaul several years ago. Before that, the keywords search worked fine for the adult movies as well. The imdb moderators addressed this issue right after the overhaul and the word was that they were looking into the issue. Years have passed since and the issue is still there. That's why it'd be nice if imdb could finally officially confirm either that this issue has low priority at this point and this is simply how the adult titles will be treated on imdb until some future website overhaul, or if this is not the case, then some new update from imdb on how they're trying to resolve this issue would be nice. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your trouble. I sincerely hope this issue will finally be addressed since it's kind of pointless to allow adult titles addition on imdb but then make it almost impossible for the users to search through them.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Advanced search for porn/adult movies.

Why is it you cannot search for adult movies/porn movies trough keywords or advanced search , and no disabling the adult filter for basic search does not work for it. Is it on purpose because imdb employeres here have never given a clear answer why imdb blocks advanced search for porn ? Is it on purpose or not ?

No, it wasn't fixed. Just type in the word "hardcore" and search it as a keyword. Imdb will list only 30 titles in total (almost none of them an actual adult title) despite the fact that the search has found over 7000 hits and you've enabled the option that tells IMDB to display adult titles in searches. When it comes to keywords, IMDB search engine basically discriminates against adult titles. The search engine registers which adult titles have the keyword that the user is searching for but the imdb website will not list these titles no matter what you set in your website preferences. This is a persistent problem ever since IMDB changed its design some 8 years ago and it's beyond clear by now that IMDB doesn't really care enough about a stigmatized "low-value" genre like the adult movies to invest time, many and other resources into fixing this serious bug.
