Is it possible to change 'Alternate Name'? (Dealing with this for over 1 year)

Hello,

My name is Anthony Jon and I would like to have an 'Alternate Name' removed from my IMDb profile. For the past year, I have tried effortlessly to have the name 'Anthony DiBartolomeo' removed from my profile, as I have never been credited on screen by this name.  I have furnished screen captures of my credits that show my name as 'Anthony Jon'. Today, I attempted to correct/remove the name 'Anthony DiBartolomeo', and I received the following message:

"This section is closed.

If you want to add an alternative, searchable name to show variations in the way a person is credited (for example, if the primary name is 'John Smith' but they are sometimes credited as 'Johnny Smith'), go back and edit the appropriate filmography credit, then add (as Johnny Smith) to the attribute field.

To edit existing alternative names, follow the same process and check for 'as' attributes on the existing credits - please note that these attributes should reflect how a person is credited on screen.

If you want to add an alternative name that is not connected to a filmography credit, please go back and add a Birth Name (for birth names only, not stage or professional names) or a Nickname (for everything else)."

With that said, I have exhausted all of the aforementioned efforts to accomplish this task. As it stands, none of my IMDb credits have the qualifier 'as Anthony DiBartolomeo'. Each credit is shown as 'Anthony Jon'. Why is it that the alternate name would still remain even after the 'as credited' qualifiers were removed? The IMDb policy states, "please note that these attributes should reflect how a person is credited on screen." It is evident that I have never been credited as 'Anthony DiBartolomeo' on any film that I have worked on. As an actor, my agent in New England has recommended that I remove this as she was asked by two separate clients why this name is included on my IMDB page (for compensation and crediting purposes).

Is there any way possible that this can be resolved? If not, why would IMDb emphasize the importance of credit accuracies is it upholds 'Anthony DiBartolomeo' as an alternate name?

Thank you so much, and I hope there is some way that this can be resolved.

Hi Anthony,,

It's a little confusing but there used to be two types of AKA's. One that was entered manually into the AKA section, like a nick name or birth name (this is the type that is closed to changes pending changes in the system), and two, those connected to credits (as in, if you were credited for a title "as Anthony DiBartolomeo," (and I don't see this occurring on your page).

There is now only one type, those connected to a name you were credited on screen. The other cannot currently be changed/added to, etc.

I would either wait for staff reply here, and maybe they can forward the request to a page editor who can manually make a change, or go to your page, click "edit page" and choose to add a "Miscellaneous Correction" (it lets you explain to a page editor) to move that to the birth name section, if appropriate, or remove it if it's not how you're known.

Good luck!

I just submitted the correction under 'Miscellaneous Correction'. My hope is that through this submission, the inaccuracy on my page will be corrected. If possible, I would like to have this request forwarded to the page editor to ensure the correction is made. I apologize for being persistent about this, however, I do not understand why it would be this challenging to make such a correction.

Best,

Do you mean this discussion thread? Why didn't you put a link to it, then, when you made the submission? It's possible staff will see this and forward it.

The reason it's more challenging now is that section is closed to edits. Those types of AKA's will, going forward, be added to the right section, birth name, nickname, etc. If they had not closed it, people would keep using it and the change over would never happen. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for your response. And the rationale certainly makes sense. I will include the link to this thread in another attempt to correct this if it remains unresolved.

Rather than re-submitting new requests, it would be better to come back and post your submission ID number and ask staff here to check it. I'd think there would be no reason for them not to fix it though.

You're very welcome.

I really would appreciate a response back from staff in order ensure that my request has been acknowledged/processed. If "bluesmanSF" is not staff, I would prefer not to have him respond again.

Hi Anthony -

I see that you are trying to remove the "Anthony DiBartolomeo" Alternative Name listing on your filmography page here.

Please be aware that your update is not being processed because the Alternative Names section is currently closed due to a data migration to a new system,  until this migration is completed, Alternative Name submissions will be on hold.

Unfortunately, you will need to wait for this migration to be completed before you will be able to request the removal of the Alternative Name listing.
