Hi

"More like this" section is useful to find similar titles like names we search and like it. Is it possible to add/remove titles for this cool section or just we can tap on "This title is not similar" / This is a similar title" buttons (thumbs up/down icons) to give report correct and wrong our ideas/polls to IMDb? Do IMDb algorithms recognize and have permitted to find and choose titles for this section? If yes, who is responsible for? AI or a human being? Every usual movie fan knows and has the ability to recognize which titles are related to which movie mostly and don’t need special skill or knowledge. For example, I don’t think anyone likes to relate “Terminator” to “The Monster Inc.”! Because there’s no in common between them.

Also, I found irrelevant recommends titles to some titles/movies I search! For example (below screenshots) I searched "Indigenous (2014)", then checked the relevant movies for it, the result weird and funny! "Indigenous (2014) is a horror movie, so we expect to see similar horror movies as its story (My suggestion for it: are Descent,  Descent 2Devil Pass and etc.)", but in the case (Indigenous (2014)) you can find animation, romance and comedy results in its “More Like This” section that unrelated to its story and atmosphere completely . I report them by clicking on “This title is not similar" / This is a similar title" buttons (thumbs up/down icons) to be edited. I don't say all titles in IMDb has this strange issue, but I like to know how they choose, add and show for a horror movie. troll users do these recommendations as a joke or AI and machine pick the closest titles for every title?!

Thanks

Masoud

Hi Masoud,

We take all of the movies and TV shows that you have either rated or added to your Watchlist and then compare your data to ratings made by other IMDb users. We can then find movies and TV shows that people with similar tastes to you like. For each recommendation, you can see a list of the movies or TV shows upon which the recommendation was based. You have either rated these titles highly, or added them to your Watchlist.
For more information, see https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/discover-watch/recommended-for-you-faqs/GPZ2RSPB3CPVL86Z

As you've discovered, our team is experimenting with letting users vote on how good a match is from a users perspective, to improve the their recommendations.
Thank you for the feedback...please keep voting to help improve your recommendations, so you keep discovering great titles to watch!

Note: The voting feature is currently being tested out, so not all users/pages will show it.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Back to this question again and something comes to my mind. Maybe I confused, maybe I couldn't describe my question well and caused you misunderstood. I think you mention to "Recommended For You" section in the IMDb's homepage that shows similar titles to a user watchlist and their ratings as you described.

I open the home page and see this section and click on "Next 6" link/button to see the titles and all of them similar to my taste and watchlist, Yes, you're right. But I talked about "Moe Like This" section that is not in the IMDb's home page and needs to open a title to see this section and feature. (As you see in the second screenshot in above in the first post).

I criticized the "More Like This" shows titles are not related to the title I open. (in my case that I mentioned with screenshots, IMDb's shows comedy, romance titles to a horror movie, that there is no similarity among them.

Best,

Masoud
