Why is it so hard to submit a new title? There are not always third party websites writing about a film about to be released, and the the submission process remains a nightmare. I've submitted dozens of films, and each time I fight the same nightmare rules. At the same time, I see loads of projects on IMDb that I know are completely fake. Why is this so hard?

If you can list the fake titles with evidence why they are fake then someone will be able to investigate your claims.

I've never had any trouble submitting adding a title entry for published movie whenever I could provide a "miscellaneous link" item and at least three items for the cast or crew, along with whatever little else. I do know that I had to abandon the one title addition submission I made wherein I supplied an explanation instead of filing out the required fields, because the submission interface wouldn't allow me to change the options around to supply the required information instead of an explanation. So, I simply started over with a new submission rather than attempting a re-submission with a better explanation.

It is definitely time-consuming (if you do it right and want to ensure quality of submission), but I don't find adding new titles difficult at all. Then again I'm doing it for 8 years, so maybe it comes with experience. A few tips on adding that I hope will ease your experience with adding new titles and/or save you some time:
- Finding miscellaneous links is not that hard if you know where to look. Upcoming title: hit the news and social networks, plus festivals. Obscure title: hit the blogs, zines and websites on little-known movies like Critical Condition. In many cases wikias might help and there's nothing bad in making a wikia about your own productions if you want information in one place: it often helps to accumulate personal knowledge, small bits from different sources etc. and create a source of your own which contains original research on subject.
- One of the most time-consuming aspects is adding cast and crew to it's fullest. That requires watching and re-watching main titles and/or end credits numerous times. There's not much things that could be of help there, but one tip that will save you lots of time: instead of typing each name manually you may paste person's IMDb number in the field if one is already there.
- The title might come through without miscellaneous link if it has a video link, so any teaser, news reports, interviews etc. might be of help. If they are situated on YouTube it's fairly easy to link a specific timecode to moment where production is mentioned.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for sharing the issue.
In addition to the helpful advice above, please remember you can always use the "Provide explanation" checkbox if you are unable to provide any third party verification links:

We have made a note to update the new title guide to better highlight this.

Hi, Col Needham. Some kind of guide or help article should clarify that you don't accept references/URLs to IMDb demo reels that happen to be actual movies (available only on IMDb yet completely public) as evidence of publication.
