I am writing a story about Federico Fellini and I am citing IMDB as a non-source.
Indeed I am going to report that despite Fellini won 5 Academy Awards, IMDB only reports one.
I would like to inform IMDB which is the world's most autoritative source about movie that in the awards page of FEDERICO FELLINI (a major figure in cinema history) FOUR ACADEMY AWARDS ARE MISSING. In his career Fellini WON 5 academy awards but IMDB only reports one. Now I ask myself how can the most autoritative source about movie be so poor with such a major cinema figure? suggestion anyone?

Gianluca: This is not IMDb's error, but a reflection of the policy of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

According to AMPAS's official rules for the Oscars, the award for Best Foreign Language Film is not awarded in the name of the director, but to the country that submits the film. So for Le notte di Cabiria, 8 1/2, and Amarcord, the official nominee and recipient was Italy -- not Fellini or any other person. Yes, the director gets to give the acceptance speech and probably gets to take the Oscar trophy home, but the director is not officially credited as winning the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

There was only one exception to this rule. In the Oscars for 1956, the Best Foreign Language Film was awarded to the producers of the film. Although Fellini directed the winning film for that year, La strada, he did not produce it. The Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for La strada was officially credited to the film's producers, Dino De Laurentiis and Carlo Ponti.
