Images are being cut off in the image lists

Images are being cut off in the image lists on the site and in the iOS app.  The bottom of the thumbnails are cut off here: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls092928086/, and in the app the issue is with the Edit Tags & Report buttons being cut off (see image below).  There is a scroll bar that appears to the right to accommodate for this, but all the text in the bottom overlay section could fit on the screen at one time if the buttons were moved slightly higher.

Hi shape5,

Please know that you can tap on the image, above the overlay, to hide the information and view the entire image.

Or were you intending to simply provide feedback regarding the amount of space used in the information overlay?

Yes, I'm aware of that but my comment with the app was only in regards to the overlay buttons being cut off rather than the image.  The cut off image thumbnails are happening only on the site lists.  Did you check the link?

I see, thanks for the clarification. On the desktop site, the image thumbnails will always be cropped to a square as shown in the image below:

See, for another example, our Latest Posters image list.

Regarding the buttons issue on your IMDb app, can you confirm the following info for us so that we can investigate further?
  • Device model
  • OS version number
  • IMDb app version number
Thanks in advance.

Hmm, regarding the desktop site images, I don't see why this would be intentional as it looks glitchy to cut off the bottom of the posters, especially when the text is cut off.  Since the posters are rectangular and all other lists & ratings display images as rectangles (including people lists), I don't see why the image lists shouldn't as well for sake of consistency.  For ex, the "Recently Viewed" image thumbnails along the bottom of the site look perfect.  The images lists should use the same format:

IMDB app issue:  iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 12.4.1, latest IMDb app version 10.2.1

Thanks

I agree with you.
There are many improvements that need to be made.
Your button issue should be addressed by the tech team immediately. But will they?
As a pollmaker I have to choose or reject Images for inclusion in my lists that when the auto crop feature is applied still shows what I intend the viewer to see. Many images are useless in a list because of "Cropping". I wish this was corrected to reflect the full portrait or landscape Image in all lists.

Hi shape5,

Thanks so much for your patience. We've now released an updated version of the IMDb app for iOS.

Please update your app and let us know if you're still experiencing the issue with the "Edit Tags" and "Report" buttons.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, thanks for the followup and attempted fix.  I just re-tested it with the 10.3 iOS update but unfortunately it looks exactly the same as before: the bottom half of the buttons are still cut off.

Can you also please acknowledge my last response on the desktop site images as shown in the screenshot?

Thanks

Hi shape5,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I see that the concerns you raised about the features are working as intended.
However for future consideration, I'm going to convert this over to the "Idea" section, so that other users can vote & comment upon this.
