I put into data, my list of 2000 movies with title, actor, director and year and added my own search program to access that data. My actor list for each movie is only around 20, as this is a lot of typing. I have always wanted to have a data list like that of IMDb for each of my movies.I'm even listing my TV shows into separate episodes.

Vance McCarthy,
I'm not certain what you are suggesting.

Are you currently maintaining a list of films external to IMDb or do you have a title list using IMDb's list feature?

There is this suggestion that IMDB is considering:
i think a search engine for list name is necessary

I thought I made myself clear.
In answer to your question - both.
I have used IMDb's list feature to show my collection of DVD's.
I have also catalogued my dvd's in my own self contained
program to list movies by actor, director or year.
But as I suggested, I want to access the more extensive list - showing
only my personal list of DVD's on IMDb.
The other suggestion seemed unclear as replies to it were varied.

So, if I've understood correctly, you want to be able to search your IMDB list of DVDs by person or year?

If so this can be done through the advanced search:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title

You can select the lists you want to include at the bottom of the page.

So, as an example, here is my list of zombie movies with George Romero in the credits:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?list...

Or films that pre-date Night of the Living Dead (1968):

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?list...

You can fiddle with the settings and switch IDs if you like.

The main shortfall is that you can search by name, but despite what it says in the querystring, you can't narrow it down by role - so you can get all films with Quentin Tarantino in, but not narrow it down to those he directed or acted in.

It wouldn't be too hard to implement and I feel a suggestion coming on for that.
