I am in an uncredited role in a Finnish tv movie, and although I was the one who let you know about it, I am not listed. Why?

Hey! My name is Merja Pohjola, and I am the one who let you know about the Finnish tv-movie Poika and Ruusuköynnös in the first place. It is because my aunt (Eeva Pohjola) directed it and since she shot it in my hometown, Tampere, instead of Helsinki, she used people who lived here - my mother plays the boys mother, and I play the sister. The gap in the years is thus explained - I was only 13 when I played the sister; and haven't appeared in movies again until decades later. However, due to some misunderstanding I was not credited, although I am part of the core family in this movie. My surname should prove that. My aunt is not using the computer to verify this, but since it was me who first notified you about this, I am asking you to list me too, as uncredited... I am trying to pursue my career as an actress so every tiny thing means the world to me. Let me know if I can somehow send you a letter from my aunt or something to prove that I was in this tv-movie. Sincerely yours,
Merja Pohjola PS: The reference number for my submission is 131109-193127-816000. a

Hi Merja,

This appears to be your IMDb page.
Merja Pohjola
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3569259/

IMDb goes by the opening and closing credits for credited roles. Since you have credits for other productions, the best you can hope for is to be uncredited.

Scan in evidence that you appeared in your aunt's TV movie. A screen grab with you and a letter from you aunt would be helpful. If there is a call sheet with your name on it, that would also be helpful.

Upload the evidence to a file sharing site.

Include a link to the files in this form and reference 131109-193127-816000 on the form.

Thanks for the info... the problem is, that I have the movie on VHS, and my VHS player doesn't work... it is an OLD tv-movie as you can see... Would a letter from my mother, who is credited as the boy's mother do? Only, my aunt lives quite far away from me and is not online. Also, the boy himself, Yrjänä Rankka will prolly testify i played his sister. But he lives in Holland - so would an email from him do? Call sheets etc... are all long gone.. But I will see what I can find ;)

It might be an idea to see if anyone has a VHS around they can lend you. I keep one as I still have a lot of tapes.

There are also people who offer services where they'll transfer VHS tapes to DVD.

These services may also be able to help you get screen grab from the video of a scene with you in it.

Also, your aunt does not have to be online to help her. Simply send her a surface mail asking for a letter documenting your part in the TV movie.

Yup - I kept one, but it is broken... anyway, I am sure I'll find someone... ;) What about emails from my mom and the boy, both of whom are credited? Oh, now I noticed... I will let my aunt know... and ask her for a surface letter ;)

Hi Merja,

I do not want to falsely raise your hopes. A letter from your aunt may not be sufficient, unless she can prove who she is in the letter. If her TV movie had official letter head, than having her send you a surface mail using that letter head would be helpful. Even more helpful would be a screen grab and a call sheet.

The IMDb editorial staff has to be conservative in accepting credits. Unfortunately, there have been numerous cases in which someone has falsely claimed a credit.

I wish you luck in getting your credit.

Please tell us if you need any additional help.

Indeed. It might work but I wouldn't set the wheels in motion without staff saying this'll work as I'd hate to think you'd waste your time going a dead end.

The best evidence is a screenshot of yourself in the production and I'd definitely pursue that angle first.

Libraries, colleges and universities all have VHS machines in researve for times like this. I would search around by calling every one of these i could find, and ask them if they have a VHS player you can use.

Are we even sure that she is not credited in the end credits? I mean a very few people are now listed on the IMDB entry and I'm pretty sure that the cast&crew list is not complete.

I may have access to see this film and the end credits. I'll let you know later this week.

I have now seen the end credits and Merja seems to be right - she's not listed in the end credits (only a "mother" Eila Pohjola, "son" Ykä Rankka, "Hugo Simberg" Antti Ollila, and "father" Timo Kuivanen are listed). So the two boys, mother and father are credited.

However, there's a little girl in a few scenes (inside a house and "pic 5" after a sauna, at least). Here are some screencaps (best I can do at the moment ):

Thank you so much! Yes, this girl is me when I was 14. I don't know if you can tell by looking at my current pictures... but that big nose and mouth are a huge telltale sign ;D Besides, my name is Pohjola, the director, Eeva Pohjola is my aunt (via marriage), the writer, Taisto Pohjola is Eeva's husband and my late uncle, and the one who plays the mother of "The boy" (and I am the sister) is Eila Pohjola, my real mother too. I hope this is enough to add this uncredited role to my page, since I am trying to expand my IMBD page as I am trying to find more work as an actress while furthering my theater studies now as an adult. Thank you so much... and these screencaps are a treasure to me too ;)) (That was our summer cottage where the sauna scene was shot... ;))

BTW... my real name is Merja Pohjola, I am credited with "Vuonna 85", "The Blinded" and "Uusi päivä" as an actress, and "Rajavartija" ("The boarder guard") in Thanks. Tuulikki is just my middle name, I really don't use that when I do acting jobs.

(I'm not part of the IMDB team/moderators)

Your name seems to be added/approved now. Some of the cast&crew credits are still missing, so I can submit them over the weekend. Since I did some reaserch, I might as well add them.

Hi! If you trust my word, I can mention some people who were in this tv movie, since me and my mother asked my school friends and people from our theatre group to take part in it?

If they are also "uncredited" and don't currently have IMDb Name Pages listing "credited" work, they would not yet be eligible to have a listing.  IMDb primarily documents what's in the credits. So, while they'll list some "uncredited" work for people already listed, they won't start a Name Page for "uncredited" work (and they don't list "extras" at all). Otherwise, you could post the info including their names as they appear on IMDb and the roles they played.

If they're credited, it seems Eboy is working on it already.

Okey... I am not positive any of them have pages with credits, but I will have to check.

Here are the end credits. I'll submit them now to the IMDB.

(Screenshots now removed by Eboy since the credits are added to the IMDB)
