Hello IMDb staff,

We would like to thank you for all your consistent hard work in improving IMDb.
We've been trying to remove the date of birth and place of birth for one of our clients. Unfortunately not only the information is not correct but it was also added randomly without our permission and without accurate verification. When we tried removing the date of birth and place of birth from the IMDb settings it didn't go through and that's the reason why we are contacting you. Here's a link to our client's page:  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0756475/?ref_=nm_mv
We are willing to provide official verification but its very important that you guys don't attach the information on the page as of this point, its very important that the place of birth and date of birth remains unapparent on the actor's IMDb page as it might negatively effect his career. Please guide us through the process.

Thank you,

Nicole Slater

Hello Aaron, Unfortunately that doesn't work with the corrections of "Date of Birth" and "Place of Birth" once click on the edit choice the page will say "Any requests for deleting birth dates should be sent to the help desk." and the removal will not be accepted, which is the reason why we have contacted the IMDb staff.
Thank you!

Hi Nicole,
We are committed to providing complete factual information
related to films, television and people
involved in the entertainment industry,
including birth dates and other biographical data.

While we're more than happy to update our info or rectify,
upon verification, any inaccuracies in our data,
it has always been our policy not to alter or delete
any kind of factual information or credit that we believe to be correct from our records,
as doing so would greatly undermine the accuracy and reliability of our database.

Hello Will,

Thank you very much for getting in touch with us. So your basically saying that you will not remove the date of birth and place of birth after we provide verification? you will be able to correct it but not remove it? We don't understand that reasoning, like we mentioned the date of birth and place of birth were attached without our permission and there are plenty of actors that don't have the date of birth and place of birth apparent on their pages so how come we're stuck in this scenario? Like I mentioned earlier having the date of birth and place of birth apparent on our actor's page contradicts the career plan we have for him as of this time. We will definitely be adding the date of birth and place of birth in the future, when we believe its the right time to do so. We need IMDb to understand our situation and help us out.

Thank you,
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for your post.

As mentioned above, it has always been our policy not to alter or delete any kind of factual information from the database.

We believe the birth date listed is accurate, however if you're able to provide us evidence to suggest otherwise - our editors will happily review this and if necessary update the listing.

Thanks for understanding.

Joel

I've provided birth certificate & passport - still wasn't enough! And it's nobody's business anyway! Since when should IMDB be entitled to copies of my government issued ID...?? And my birthdata is completely incorrect - was entered by a production assistant about 10 years ago who mixed up my DOB with another actress. We've both been in touch for YEARS... nothing. I

Hello Joel,

Thank you for getting in touch with me.
We completely understand and respect IMDb's policy. We will be following the link to provide evidence regarding the matter but we're really more interested in removing the date of birth and place of birth at this time rather than changing it. We were wondering if that's possible?

Thank you,

Nicole

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoang_v._Amazon.com,_Inc.
Hoang v. Amazon.com, Inc. et al.
(initially filed as Doe v. Amazon.com, Inc. et al.)
is a lawsuit brought by actress Junie Hoang in October 2011
against IMDb.com and its parent company Amazon.com
for revealing her true date of birth,
which she said opened her up to age discrimination.
In March 2013, all of her claims against Amazon
and all but one of her claims against IMDb were dismissed,
and in April 2013,
a jury found that IMDb was not liable
for the remaining claim for breach of contract;
the verdict was upheld on appeal

Two actors' unions, SAG and AFTRA, supported Hoang,
saying that IMDb was "facilitating age discrimination".

After the lawsuit was decided,
the unions pressed the California legislature to enact legislation
requiring Internet sites to remove birth dates and ages of entertainers
upon their request.
The legislature enacted the law, Assembly Bill 1687,
in September 2016.[19] In February 2018,
U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria struck down the
law as violating the First Amendment

So why do they still refuse birth date changes?

A couple of years ago I reached out to you on behalf of a friend, whose date of birth you have listed as nearly a decade earlier than it actually is. My friend was unwilling to share the kind of personal documents you demanded to make the correction, especially since your original information could not possibly have been verified, having been so egregiously off

You guys sound like you're having a lot of fun  - at other people's expense, I might add.  Feels good, does it?  Mocking people makes your day?  I see by your activity that you're each major trolls on this site.  Either employees or just loads of time on your hands.  I mean, Ed, almost 7,000 posts?  Good lord, where do you find the time?  And Vincent has over 2,000 posts.  Yowza.  If you're not IMDb employees already, I'd started asking for a paycheck if I were you.  You're doing them a wonderful service, policing this site so efficiently.  Good on you both.  Well done.

Hi, Erin. It does not take a whole lot of time to spread out a single idea across multiple posts.

Now who's being paranoid?  You honestly think I sought you out, Ed?  Is that even possible? No, babe, I simply did a search for a topic and found that you, and mostly you, had a lot to say.  And in a fairly nasty tone, which I find curious.  And Jeorj, almost 6,000 posts?  Why would you want to spread "a single idea across multiple posts"?  Who does that?  What are you guys doing with your lives?

Yes, Ed, let's help, shall we?  Let's be kind, and thoughtful, and maybe get out in the garden, or volunteer, or write that novel that's been on hold for too long.  And let's be compassionate to the good folks in the film and television industry who actually have jobs, or want to keep their jobs, or want to land that next job and, therefore, feel it's critical that their pertinent personal data be removed.  If you're in the industry and feel fine about having your date of birth posted on the Internet for the world to see, terrific.  Lovely.  I'm sincerely happy for you.  But why poo-poo a colleague who feels differently?  And if you're not in the industry, in God's name, what the hell are you doing here?  With 7,000 posts, no less.  So, you see why "IMDb employee" comes to mind?

And as an IMDb employee (which I'm trusting that you are because the alternative is just too sad), please tell you employer that a change is coming. They can litigate.  They can appeal.  But, in the end, (thank you, Jesus) they will lose.  IMDb is kinda like Harvey Weinstein: an entity that nobody likes but everyone puts up with because they think they have to.  That is, until a brave, lone voice objects to the entity's abuse of power.  Then a sea change begins. A change that gathers voices and strength, until the balance of power shifts and the entity is outed for the monster it is.

So, if you want my advice, from a public relations standpoint, IMDb needs to apologize for being dicks, eliminate their unethical policies, and eat some serious crow.  Then people might warm up to them again.  Maybe.

Having said that, please know that I will not be checking back here again.  My life is calling.  And every time you post here, Ed, think of me.  And know that I'm off somewhere doing something interesting, worthwhile, and deeply satisfying.

Be well.  Be kind.  And perhaps add in some serious soul searching.
