How can I search for the main language of a movie?

Really I don't care if three sentences of French language are in a film when the rest is American. When i search for a French-language film for example, I want to see these films where almost all the dialogue is in French. Is there any way to do so? I know it worked with the old advanced search, but now this possibility seems to be entirely gone.

This issue wasn't present a few months ago. I hope it gets resolved ASAP. Movies should only be filtered by their main languages.

I'm assuming this issue is being dropped?

I haven't been able to use IMDB language search ever since the advanced search update...

*Sigh*

Still haven't fixed this issue...

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?languages=ja&title_type=feature

Apparently these are the most popular Japanese language movies...

I have noticed that language links on title pages currently use a different search with a "primary_language" setting:

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?titl...

I think it's a good thing that the advanced search is able to deliver all titles that use a chosen language. Hopefully both methods can coexist.

What exactly do you mean by "resolved", Kurt. The "primary_language" parameter or the normal parameter?

Hi Steb,

What should now be resolved is the primary_language parameter when used in advanced title search as you originally reported, For example now when selecting a primary language in the filters, only show titles whose primary language matches the one specified should populate in results.

Let us know if you still encounter any further issues with this.

Best,
Kurt

I can't see any change in the advanced title search.

I do see that the primary-language search is used in this list:
http://www.imdb.com/language/

I would like to see both searches coexist. Please don't remove the complete language search.

Hi Peter,

I've re-reported this to our technical team regarding the issue reported in the thread with the advance search language filtering and results.

This search; http://www.imdb.com/language/ so remain unchanged though.

Best,
Kurt

Hi All,

I've just heard back from my team and they believe the following issues are now resolved;

The intended functions should now be;
1. The results on the advanced title search form will continue to use the "languages" URL parameter, which will show all titles where the language is listed as a given spoken language (it won't just populate the main language).

2. Next, the link;  http://www.imdb.com/language/ar should now redirect to; http://www.imdb.com/search/title?primary_language=ar&title_type=feature , correctly.

If you need any further assistance please let us know.

Thanks,
Kurt

WOW! Thank you Kurt & Peter. I am extremely grateful for the solution. This primary_language filter works perfectly so far. IMDB is great again!

This primary language search feature has been working great however I noticed there are few movies where the primary language is incorrectly listed. These movies should be double checked.

Trainwreck, The Painted Veil, and The Cloverfield Paradox which are all English movies showed up along with others in the results when I searched for primary language: Mandarin (cmn). Many English movies have other languages in them but the primary language is still English.

Please fix issues like this.

Thanks

I looked at the data for those and submitted corrections for the first two. The third title had already been fixed.

In some cases it’s just a question of adding a missing order number:

You can also use your IMDb account to submit corrections when you come across errors like this.
