I have noticed thatthere are films which receive pretty much the same score from all voters whileothers get very divergent ratings, a mixture often containing significantnumbers of both 1 and 10 votes. A filmwhich averages 6 with almost all votes in the 5 to 7 range should be viewedvery differently from one that also averages 6 but has loads of 1s and 10s. I wonder if there is any simple way that thiscould be highlighted on IMDB. Maybe asimple calculation of the standard deviation would be possible? What about it IMDB? While this idea has been in my mind for sometime it was brought to the fore by “Miss Sloane”. It has a very reasonable average rating of7.5 but when I looked at individual scores there were loads of votes of 1, allfrom the gun lobby, dragging its score down. How anyone can seriously imagine that a law set up in 1791 is stillappropriate today or is unable to understand that the USA has a level of gundeaths some ten times higher than the average of other “civilised” countries isnot something I will debate here.
