Hoax credits

I've been looking into an artist named Richard Madenfort, aka Rick Marty, Richard Martin, Maddog, PianoGuyY, and others: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm9503672/

Please note that I already submitted deletion edits to his IMDB credits, but thought I'd also write here to provide a bit more depth and evidence.

It appears Richard Madenfort began placing false credits for himself and his various aliases on high-traffic publicly-curated websites at least as far back as 2016. These credits then began propagating throughout the web on mirroring sites, until he was able to cite one website as proof of another, and daisy chain himself into existence so to speak. The truth appears to be that Richard Madenfort, though a real person, has no actual credits of any kind in music, TV, or film. You'll note that he doesn't exist on AllMusic.com or AllMovie.com, and I can personally attest to the fact that every single music credit I've found for him online has been proven false. His name appears nowhere on any liner notes, credits, or session contracts for any of the work his name is attached to online.

Folks have gotten wise to him and removed his credits from MusicBrainz.org, Discogs.com, and Wikipedia.org (though one credit remains on a general Pennsylvania musicians Wiki page). The only major website left appears to be IMDB.com. For the record, I was the person who initiated the discussion on MusicBrainz, and I personally removed his credits from Discogs after providing physical evidence. I am a researcher for a royalties distribution company.

Here's a revealing discussion on MusicBrainz about him:
https://community.metabrainz.org/t/richard-madenfort/416096/5

Here is a link which shows the repeated removal of his Wikipedia edits on a Lee Brice album:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=I_Don%27t_Dance_(album)&action=history

As you can see, he has a substantial list of credits here on IMDB, including work on the TV series Nashville and The Good Doctor. Many but not all of his credits include the word "uncredited", in a seeming clever attempt to make them immune to disproving. However, anyone who worked with the extensive list of A-list artists he claims (Lady Gaga, Alice Cooper, Cyndi Lauper, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, etc.) should exist in some credits somewhere, shouldn't they? How is it that AllMusic and AllMovie have never heard of him?

Hulu has The Good Doctor and Nashville TV series available to stream, so I took some screenshots of the music credits from a couple episodes as a starting point. They're not smoking guns by any means, but can perhaps serve as a starting point to investigating and dismantling this hoax.

I'd be very interested to see which users added his credits to this database, and what their sources were in each case. I'll wager each of them is actually Richard Madenfort.

Just giving this a bump, wondering whether there's been any progress on it. I see that the hoax credits are still up on IMDB. If there is a way to communicate via email regarding this, please let me know.

Hi Rick,

It looks like the name has been investigated and credits removed from the page. If you do wish to discuss any further changes in more detail privately please feel free to go here selecting IMDb Fan/Contributor questions > Filmography credits > Other credit issues and hit the e-mail option.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Will

Cheers, thanks Will. One follow-up question: does that mean that the remaining credits are still under review, or are they considered correct or at least unremovable? You'll note the "uncredited" after almost all of them. A more realistic credit would be "uninvolved".

Hi Rick -

Our editors reviewed the all the filmography credits and removed the items that were identified as being inaccurate, the credits that we did not identify as inflation remained.  If you are aware of any inaccuracies regarding the remaining credits, please request the applicable credit removal through our online Update form and our editors will be happy to take another look.

I will do that. But, at what point does it become clear that his profile is a complete fabrication? Is there never a point at which he is just removed entirely? Above 95% percent of his credits have been shown to be false and have been removed already. Are you afraid there's an actual legitimate credit among what's left?

Hi Rick -

It is our policy not to disclose details concerning our contributors and their submissions, in this case, our editors reviewed the information on Mr. Madenfort's filmography page and removed the incorrect credits, we believe that the existing credits are factual.  As always, if we receive a report with evidence to prove otherwise, we will then remove any applicable credits.
