Help credit Emmys to the correct winner.

As is many times the case, there are several people with the same name as me. In that regard, there is a mix up whereby a Dana Martin (1) is credited with the Emmy awards that I (Dana Ross Martin) won.

Too, the Dana Martin (1) who is credited with winning my Emmy awards is a Costume Designer and these two Emmy awards (presently credited to Dana Martin (1)) are for Technical Direction and Electronic Camerawork (Barbara Mandrell's Christmas: A Family Reunion (1986) - and - The Magic of David Copperfield VII - Familares (1985))

I have tried to correct these oversights but to no avail. Would you please help me do this?

Thanks,
Dana Ross Martin

Sorry to hear about this. Just so we are on the same page:

These are the awards you need fixing?:

http://www.imdb.com/event/ev0000223/1...
http://www.imdb.com/event/ev0000223/1...

Both of which link to:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0552130/

And you want to change them to point at:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0552131/

If so, staff should be able to sort this out. Have you tried deleting it and re-adding?

It'd be worth flagging up this too, as I think it is safe to assume that you aren't the murderous stalker of Justin Bieber, so those related news articles need removing asap too (they appear in the sidebar for Bieber and then link to your entry, so I'm surprised there haven't been irate fans on your message board):

Thank you for your help and guidance.

I've forwarded this write-up to the folks at IMBd.com with hopes they'll "fix the mix-up"

Again, much appreciated, Emperor.

Sincerely,
Dana Ross Martin

I am unsure what you've done, but usually staff won't get stuck in and make all the changes for you, unless it is easier for them to do to it or it requires their direct intervention.

We can talk you through the steps you'd need to go through in order to resolve the various issues. It'll also probably get quicker results than just punting a message to, for example, the help desk and waiting for a reply.

That makes perfect sense, thanks.

Yes, I'll take you up on your offer and make the changes myself (following your lead)

How do we proceed?

OK.

Firstly the related news - it is possible to work through each entry and ask for the link to be removed, but there are a lot of them and you have to wait 5 minutes between messages, so it will be tedious and time-consuming. What I have done is reported the first news article and made clear that this is part of a larger problem and it'd save everyone's time (including theirs) if they just went and processed the lot in one go. We'll wait and see what happens there. Fingers crossed you won't need to do anything else there - if it doesn't work we'll give you instructions on how to sort that out.

Second - this is a little tricky as I am not aware of a way to edit this directly. What you need to do is hit the big "edit page" button at the bottom of the page, select correct/delete and scroll down to the relevant award (I use the browser's search in page feature to find Martin, Dana) and select to correct it. This reloads the page and the background is now a bluey colour. The warning should say that it isn't possible to correct it, you need to delete it and resubmit it. As staff haven't chipped in on this issue, I assume there is no easier way to fix this, so you'll have to click on "do it" but first, copy and paste the details of the award and winners into something like Notepad - you'll have to add this all back in again so it'll be important to make sure you get the names right including Roman numerals (like "Herring, Jim (II)" and " Smith, Jerry (VIII)"), along with their roles and doing this will ensure you get the information all right (or we'd be faced with this all over again). Obviously, the only actual change you want to make is from "Martin, Dana (I)" to "Martin, Dana Ross".

Hope that helps. If I've missed something out or a step isn't clear then speak up (and I'm sure one of the other users around here will chip in too).

Whew!

What an ordeal. But I was SO grateful to have your guidance thoughout it all.

The EMMY stuff should be in order now (we'll have to wait and see how 'they' reissue it in my bio) - and the NEWS articles will hopefully be removed by the IMDb staff (per your recommendation)

Thanks, Emperor for all of your help.

No problem. I'll let you know how the related news submission goes. It usually doesn't take long.

OK, it took longer than usual, but the one note to the help desk sorted it all out in one go:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0552131/news

So looks like it has all been sorted out.

Good luck with future endeavours.

Quite a journey, indeed, but it all worked out well.

I appreciate all you've done.
