Help! Film finally on Amazon Instant video....but..

So my film, "11/11/11" (2011/I) is finally up on Amazon Instant Video, but unfortunately its IMDb rating is terrible. My film has never screen publicly (we only held two private invite-only screenings) and I fear the votes are actually for the terrible horror film with the same name.

Most of the votes are outside the US (which I know can happen if someone moves out of the country but registered while in the US) but our title is not available on Amazon outside the US, so there's literally no way they could have seen the film.

I know people complain about their IMDb ratings all the time.. but there's 0% chance the people voting saw the film. Is there any way to reset the rating? I assume our good votes were just friends or family and I want them cleaned off too. I want a fair rating now that the film is on Amazon, but I fear that no one will actually want to watch something with a 4.6 rating.

I just added a poster and trailer to the IMDb page to hopefully avoid confusion moving forward. I just really hope the ratings can be expunged and we can get a fair shot. I know the film isn't amazing or anything.. but I'd like to at least get a true insight into what people think of it.

Thank you so much.

Hi Peter -

Once  a film has been completed and released (or screened at least once) we allow users to vote on it. Based on our information, your film "11/11/11" has been screened at least once; therefore we can't remove or block votes for it.

With regard to your concern about the votes being bad, please rest assured that the rating is correct. The user rating is a weighted average, which means that some votes have more weight than others when calculating the final rating.

For security reasons we do not disclose exactly how we weigh individual votes but the same formula that generated the rating for your film is used to calculate the rating for all titles in the database. For more information, please refer to http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?votestopfaq

Please also keep in mind that since there is currently only a small handful of votes (12),  the weighted average may change significantly: the different weight of only one or two votes can have a big impact when the total number of votes is very small. The more valid votes are cast for the film, the less sensitive to change the weighted rating will probably become.

Thanks for the quick reply. This holds up, even if it wasn't screened publicly? We literally only invited friends and family of the cast and crew and to think that 5 people (not in the US) would have went out of their way to vote us between 1-3 is tough to swallow. Our film also appears on lists of the worst films of 2011 by people who absolutely did not see the film. I have reached out to them directly to please remove our 11/11/11 from them and I've changed the name to include (A Romantic Comedy) on Amazon.

Really appreciate everything. Just unfortunate because it's not available outside the US and these votes are coming from other countries.

Thanks

P
