Have many threads been deleted here?

I had noticed that the Get Satisfaction IMDb community had reached over 1,000 pages of threads (conversations). At 20 threads per page, that meant we had over 20,000 threads available. In fact, a couple of weeks ago I posted a screen capture of the message board which showed 20,176 conversations:

(Please ignore the circle around my name; I was posting the screen shot for a different reason, as explained at https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/how-can-i-check-my-conversation-to-see-if-my-questions-or-pr....)

Now, however, I see we are down to only 19,799 conversations here as of this writing. That's a net reduction of 377 threads in two weeks, even though people are creating new threads every day.

I wondered if perhaps we had hit a limit on the amount of threads we were allowed to have here and a number of older threads had been deleted by Get Satisfaction. But I asked about that in the GS community (https://getsatisfaction.com/getsatisfaction/topics/is-there-a-limit-on-the-number-of-conversations-i...), and the staff there didn't say anything about a limit. They suggested that perhaps there had been a lot of threads archived or deleted recently.

So I would like to know if anyone knows whether there has been a lot of archiving or removing threads here, especially during the last two weeks. (Note that threads merely being closed wouldn't affect the total number of conversations, because closed threads are still available on the board for viewing.)

I know it wouldn't account for that volume but maybe merging was done too (though I hadn't noticed).

If there is a limit, maybe merging as much as possible, when appropriate, would be a good thing to keep in mind.  Especially with some topics that are posted almost daily ("I have 5 pages in my name, how can I get it all on one page?").  I know a while back, staff had done a lot of cleaning up with merges. I am reluctant sometimes, not wanting the OP's getting flooded with notifications.

Thanks for checking ... there is no limit.

We just did some clean-up of (a) outdated threads which might confuse customers reporting new issues (b) older unanswered threads beyond the scope of Get Satisfaction (c) ideas which have now been implemented and could cause confusion to someone reading them now.

Thanks, Col. That explanation works for me.
