I myself am a fan of the dark theme, but there are many reviews I've seen of people already complaining that they want the lighter theme back. Give us an option to choose please. Plus, the AD banners on this app are so big and annoying, make them smaller because currently they take away from the experience. Lastly, the app logo is quite old and doesn't follow the material design standards. This app is so close to perfect.

Hello Harshil,

I’m Heather, the Product Manager for the IMDb Android app and I’d like to address your comment about the switch to the dark theme in v6.1.4.

We did not make the decision to switch to a dark theme lightly and we know some people will prefer one theme over another. Many factors went into the decision, including customer requests for a dark theme and comparative usage data of the dark vs. the light theme in our iOS app. Those requests and data showed a strong preference for a dark theme.

We also considered how people use the app. We know many of you use the app while watching shows at home and a dark theme doesn’t require your eyes to adjust back to the screen and is less distracting to other people in the room, especially if you watch shows in the dark like I do.

As the team talked through this change, we also evaluated providing an option like we do in iOS to choose between themes. We decided against this because two themes means doubled design, development, and quality assurance work for the user experience in every release going forward. Doing the duplicate work to support two themes takes time away from working on other features customers have requested, like editable lists, (coming very soon!)

I'll pass your feedback about the ads and app icon along to the team.

Thank you for using the IMDb Android app!

I am slightly visually impaired and cannot read text on this new non-changeable dark background. Deciding we don't get an option to change it like the iOS app does is not fair and not accessible.

Heather I'm sorry but you the development team feel one-sided about this it should be considered when doing an amp to give your customers the option I myself disabled at home bedridden and you sure as a lot and it is very hard to read because of my vision I could not read the ad very well in the dark but even in a dark room even if I turn the light on I could still not read the app correctly and dark will not be using your app any further thank you for your time Robert Clowes

(Note:  My reply here is copied from another related thread.
Please excuse the repetition.  Perhaps the two threads should be merged?)

FWIW, one of the W3C "Understanding WCAG 2.0"  documents
includes a note that says:   "... we allow and encourage authors
to provide mechanisms"  [that enable users]  "to adjust the
foreground and background colors ...."
