Get All Imdb movies in Sorted order with only User Rating, I know there is already top 250, but that is based on some other factor, but I want to get the Movies only in Rating. Is there any way?

I want to get all the IMDB movies between rating 8-9.

Thank you for the awesome mobile app.

Hi Akshay Joy,

This is something you can easily do with an advanced title search.

From any IMDb selected "Advanced Search" from the drop down menu under the word "All" next to the yellow magnifying glass. This will bring your to the Advanced Search (http://www.imdb.com/search/) page.

Click on Advanced Title Search which will bring you to the Advance Title Search (http://www.imdb.com/search/title) page.

On the Advance Title Search page:

Under Title Type, selected "Feature Film".
Under User Rating select 8.0 and 9.0.
Under Display Options select sorted by "User Rating Descending"

Click the yellow "Search" button. You should see:

Highest Rated Feature Films With User Rating Between 8.0 And 9.0
1-50 of 4,629 titles. Next »
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?sort=user_rating,desc&title_type=feature&user_rating=8.0,9....

Some of these films may have only 5 votes. You may wish to limit the films to those with at least a 500 votes.

Repeat the Advanced Title search by entering 500 in the first box under Number of Votes.

To restrict your search by number of votes, enter a minimum value in the first box to get titles with more than that number of votes, and/or a maximum value in the second box to get titles with less than that number of votes. Remember, neither is required, so if you want only titles that have at least 1000 votes, all you have to enter is 1000 in the first box, and you can leave the "maximum" box blank.
You should see:
Highest Rated Feature Films With User Rating Between 8.0 And 9.0 and At Least 500 Votes
1-50 of 1,182 titles. Next »
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?num_votes=500,&sort=user_rating,desc&title_type=feature&...

As you increase the minimum number of votes, you get:

1-50 of 987 titles. Next »

25,000 votes is the minimum number for a film to be eligible to be included in the IMDb Top 250.

http://www.imdb.com/chart/top?ref=ft_250

The formula for calculating the Top Rated 250 Titles gives a true Bayesian estimate:

weighted rating (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C

Where:

  • R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
  • v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
  • m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 25000)
  • C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 7.0)

For the Top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered.

Weighted Average Ratings
IMDb publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages. Various filters are applied to the raw data in order to eliminate and reduce attempts at 'vote stuffing' by individuals more interested in changing the current rating of a movie than giving their true opinion of it.

The exact methods we use will not be disclosed. This should ensure that the policy remains effective. The result is a more accurate vote average.

Thank you Dan Dassow, That was very detailed explanation.
But there is a problem in the result there are lot of variations from the User Rating to the Original IMDB rating, I want the movies in the actual IMDB rating,
