We were shown a short film in Social Studies back about '77 or '78. It was set in the future and a guy was going nuts because he couldn't get any respite from the constant interruptions on the portable communications device he (and everyone) carried. Title anyone?

Hello, glenn,
It's been a few weeks but I hope I can still try to answer this for you... I hate it when I can't remember the name of something I watched!  :)

Here is Wikipedia page on the subject of 70's short films: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1970s_short_films

And another Wikipedia link to the titles of Coronet Films, a company that used to make many, many educational (and sometimes just plain crazy, lol) shorts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Coronet_Films

This may be The Murderer, an adaptation of a Ray Bradbury short story.

I think Brian has got it. By the way, this story was apparently also later adapted as an episode of THE RAY BRADBURY THEATER, available for viewing on YouTube:

I just watched it.  It has been 45 years so I am not 100% sure, but that could have been it.  Same sentiment in any event.
