Sorry, my fault. I should have double-checked before posting. In the future, give the post more than a couple minutes before posting about a simple error. The error will disappear usually within that time frame, when I give it a final check. When you post so quickly it prevents me from making any corrections to the header. In this case, I wasn't able to add PS: before the title.

Thanks, Rocky (1976)   Drama , Sport | 3 December 1976 (USA) didn't come up in the IMDb search, but I would have to agree. So, does Carl Weathers and others apparently. Carl Weathers debates whether Rocky is a sports movie or a love story

I can understand that. I can't see how CASABLANCA takes the top spot though.

It's a good question, very odd that the first four movies all have unhappy endings (or bittersweet) but if one had to take the top spot, it had to be Casablanca for its iconic value, I wish Rocky made the list, for me it's as much a romance as a sport movie... it did make the Thrills and Cheers list.

I like the fact that unhappy or bittersweet endings did well. I like movie that surprise and have the unexpected. Too many movies end  with a happily ever after type ending because it "tests well with audiences", iMHO.

Just curious, Is 'The Sound of Music' your favorite movie from the group or is 'The Sound of Music' your favorite question or both? It made me wonder what my question is really asking?

Well, it was my favorite movie from the list, but I see you have since added Braveheart, so I would have to change my vote to that. :)

'Braveheart'  is same type of animal too, as The Sound of Music'. I don't think "romance" is the first or second genre classification that comes to mind immediately for either. Yet, both movies have a dominant enough romance subplot that justifies their inclusion as "romance" movies. While, I am not arguing either is a traditional romance movie, only that there is enough romance to justifiably classify them as such in the genre. I was asking only to validate the point of view or to see if my perspective is in the minority. I haven't heard an outcry on either inclusion or others, so I can only assume that no one has a strong problem with them being in the answer pool. I hope the change in the question that sets a lower romance bar with mollify those who disagree.

original question
Which of these Oscar-winning Best Picture movies* in the Romance genre is your favorite?

revised question
Which of these Oscar-winning Best Picture movies* with a romantic story line is your favorite?

If you can fit in the rest of the winners, why do you need a vote threshold?

They don't really add anything to poll other than make it longer. The last three, in particular as a group are the lowest IMDb rated Oscar winning romance movies: The Broadway Melody {1929} Oscar Best Picture Winner | Movie 6.2 (5,492) The Great Ziegfeld {1936} Oscar Best Picture Winner| Movie 6.8 (6,145) Cavalcade {1933} Oscar Best Picture Winner | Movie 6.0 (3,760). I would rather have the option of adding the 2019 or 2020 Oscar winner as a relevant viable answer option than have a bunch of zero vote options that no one has seen or if they had would be 30th choice. Ideally, I like my polls to have 25 to 30 viable answer options.

Most Voted Best Picture-Winning, Romance Feature Films
Title Type: Feature Film, Genres: Romance, Title Groups: Best Picture-Winning

PS:
There also maybe some titles that should qualify, like Rocky, Braveheart and Dances with Wolves, but may not be IMDb tagged in the Romance genre. I modified the question to encompass these grey area titles.

As Good as It Gets (1997) Thanks, It doesn't get any better than that when it comes to Oscar-Winning Best Picture romantic movies, but unfortunately it was only nominated for Best Picture and didn't win that year.

One of the movies in this list I enjoy over and over again for its humor, music and good acting is Forrest Gump (1994).

Potential 2020 Oscar Best Picture ROMANCE Nominees @ 92nd Academy Awards
(TOP 50) 2020 Oscar Predictions: Gold Derby Predicts the 92nd Academy Awards

While likely none of the top fifty nominee candidates standout as a clear-cut movie in the romance genre. I am left wondering if Oscar favorite Marriage Story (2019) would qualify. It seemingly could given the scope of the story and the optimistic ending. In looking at the defined conditions a romance must meet, it might qualify with an arguably emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending and fits into both the contemporary romance and spiritual journey subgenres with its realistic and contemporary take that features character growth and relationship development. One reviewer insightfully called Marriage Story "...maybe the most romantic film about divorce ever made".

Definition: Two basic elements comprise every romance story: a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.
1. A Central Love Story: The main plot centers around individuals falling in love and struggling to make the relationship work. A writer can include as many subplots as he/she wants as long as the love story is the main focus of the novel.
2. An Emotionally Satisfying and Optimistic Ending: In a romance, the lovers who risk and struggle for each other and their relationship are rewarded with emotional justice and unconditional love.

Romance Seven Subgenres: Romance fiction may be classified into various sub-genres depending on setting and plot elements. These subgenres include:
1. Contemporary Romance: Romance stories that are set from 1950 to the present that focus primarily on the romantic relationship
2. Erotic Romance: Romance novels in which strong, often explicit, sexual interaction is an inherent part of the love story, character growth and relationship development and could not be removed without damaging the storyline. These novels may contain elements of other romance subgenres (such as paranormal, historical, etc.).
3. Historical Romance: Romance stories that are set prior to 1950.
4. Paranormal Romance: Romance stories in which fantasy worlds or paranormal or science fiction elements are an integral part of the plot.
5. Romance with Spiritual Elements: Romance novels in which spiritual beliefs are an inherent part of the love story, character growth or relationship development, and could not be removed without damaging the story line. These stories may be set in the context of any religious or spiritual belief system of any culture.
6. Romantic Suspense: Romance stories in which suspense, mystery, or thriller elements constitute an integral part of the plot.
7. Young Adult Romance: Romance stories in which young adult life is an integral part of the plot.
