1. The Twelve Fingered Pianist from Gattaca

The piece played by the twelve-fingered pianist is based on Impromptu in G Flat Major, Op. 90, No. 3. by Franz Schubert (1797-1828). However, the creators did a beautiful job embellishing the piece with additional notes/harmonies so that "it can only be played with twelve fingers", as the Uma Thurman character notes.

You can listen to the symphony here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWUpLpnVtRw

2.  Diva Plavalaguna's performance in Le cinquième élément

Diva Plavalaguna, performed by Albanian singer, Inva Mula sings "Il dolce suono," an aria from the opera Lucia de Lammermoor. It is one of the most difficult arias because of its length, its soaring arpeggios, and the high F above high C.

Her voice when speaking is musical and ethereal, unlike any human voice, overlain so that it seems that there are two voices speaking at the same time. This implies that her vocal cords may pass air to create a voice in two different places, creating the illusion of two voices, or perhaps even the possession of two complete sets of vocal cords, supporting her incredible range and vocal abilities.

Her singing voice, which she uses to perform opera, is a highly flexible soprano that ranges from almost a high alto register all the way up into coloratura. The operatic feats heard during her vocal performance in the film is physically impossible for humans, supporting her fame and rarity.

You can listen to her singing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MR6D7tL38U

I guess it would have to be the other one by default because this video of the vary much real diva, EVGENIA LAGUNA, who sang that song in the Fifth Element proves that she can and does hit that F above high C. This the full version of the Diva's song as it is performed live in front of a full audience. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SPf2ANj....

Ps. The diva singing was the best part of a movie that I hated.

To clarify, it was Inca Mula physical body you saw but it was Laguna's voice you heard. Lip syncing and mine acting / dancing that was beautifully done.

I'm confused. According to the credits the body was played by Maïwenn Le Besco and the voice was Inva Mula?

Ok, I got the name of the physical person wrong but in this video, Maiwenn admits that while she did learn how to sing to get the breathing right, the actual voice was a professional opera singer. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0It0w7M...
The part about a professional singer's voice being used starts at the 3:40 minute mark and goes to the 4:30 minute mark. She says it was another person's voice but she still had to sing it during the shooting in order to better convince the audience that the voice was actually coming from her.
In Laguna's live performance, you can detect that some of the notes of the song after the break and change of tempo, were edited out as that section is longer in the live performance than what was shown in the film. (I have already posted the address to that video above.)
In this video of the Diva's full dance, you can tell that she is lip syncing at the beginning as her mouth opens and no sound is coming out. And near the end, in the faster coda, her mouth is closed for about a secound or two but the voice is still singing.

The final version of the film edited the sound and picture to match each other. It was beautifully done.

Thanks. If you could also put an 's' after performance in the intro, that would be great. :)
