Ashamed to say that I haven't seen either of the adaptions mentioned. Based solely on the books I'd say 'Animal Farm'

That is exactly what will make this a hard choice. I think Animal Farm is the better novel. But 1984 is the better movie.

i dont blame you gitte...this is very difficult....

and ed...you are asking me to choose which child i like best...have you no mercy...

the clock struck thirteen in 1984 but some are more equal than others in animal farm...my two favorite books of all time...i still have my paperbacks from the 60's...

as far as which novel is better i couldn't choose but animal farm really is brilliant...and there's a great animated version with kelsey grammer you should check out...but with the version you have here, i'd have to go with 1984 the movie....

great dichotomy you set up with this one....

"There is probably not a single country on the planet where the inhabitants are not familiar with the two masterpiece classic novels of George Orwell." Challenge accepted.

I bet it's safe to say, the two English language novels aren't well known in North Korea. Or South Sudan or Afghanistan where their literacy rate is below 30%.

It only takes ONE person per country. Western educated. Kim the Idiot Rocket Man probably has read it!

I'm thinking that sentence isn't needed so it's a better bet to not start off the poll with such a claim. People are either going to know the books, in which case they don't need to be convinced of their ubiquity or importance, or they're not going to know the books, in which case they're apt to either feel bad about themselves or question the validity of the poll.

I never saw 'Animal Farm' so it's now on my "to see" list. I guess my vote would go to '1984' unless I find 'Animal Farm' really quickly.

Ed,

I updated your original post to match the update to your list.

By the way: I consider your update much better.

Although I consider 1984 (1984) better than Animal Farm (1954), neither film does justice to the original George Orwell novels.
