IMHO, none of these computer's weren't evil. Computers can't even be either good or bad for that matter. In any case, these computers were misguided by the programming, instructions or parameters given to them by their human operators. Humans, on the other hand, can be evil or malevolent. I would find a better descriptor to be more accurate or at that were least modify this one, so the claim is truthful.

After reading that Dan, I may add one more to the face off. Colossus.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Ed,
I planned to also suggest Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970) in my post, but was running late for other matters.
D.F. Jones' Colossus is the first of a series of novels. The film adaptation is one of the rare cases in which the film is much better than the novel. The two sequels are The Fall of Colossus (1974) and Colossus and the Crab (1977).
Colossus is a passable science fiction novel albeit it somewhat uninspired. The two sequels are at best implausible and on occasion laughable. If the two sequels were adapted for film, they would likely be instantly eligible for the Razzie.Award.

I added it and updated the list by the way. If you could change the post. Thanks.
I was also surprised to find a pic of the colossus computer. I've had to upload two WOPR's and hope one gets approved. Also may have to use a terminator salvation pic for Skynet.

There are a lot of great suggestions in the poll, and here are two more evil Supercomputers:
AUTO from Wall-E and Samaritan from Person of Interest.
Nomad from the Changling episode of Star Trek is another evil supercomputer and an obvious inspiration for V'ger (Voyager) from Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
While computers might not be bad or good, I think a very smart artifical intelligence that can think for itself might look at humans as a lesser, competive species and decide they are not needed for the a.i's survival. A computer that can think and make decisions extremly fast might decide humans should either serve the a.i. or be eliminated.

The two top spots are at 57-56 right now. Yahoo! I love hotly contested polls and when that happens to a face-off, it makes me particularly happy.
'Well done, Ed. : )
(And wow, I'm such a poll nerd.)

Ed,
I generally check your polls only once a week. ;-)
I fully expected a strong contest between Hal and SkyNet. I'm somewhat surprised that Colossus got 7 votes; I expected less.
