Duplicates impossible to merge

There's a bunch of WCW Saturday Night wrestling episodes approved as feature films. Not sure why?
https://www.imdb.com/find?q=wcw%20saturday&s=tt&ttype=ft&ref_=fn_ft

Proof they're already in the database:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0222648/episodes?year=1995

But when I tried to merge one I get this interesting error:

Please fix this.
Cheers!

M J: I'm giving you a "me too" vote on this, because I just tested this correction myself and got the same error message:
The title format is invalid.
There seem to be multiple years of release. IMDb titles may only have one year, please use attributes to indicate work over a number of years.
As you indicated, the way to correct these entries should be (for example) to correct the title of
WCW Saturday Night - August 19, 1995 (1995) to make it "WCW Saturday Night" (1985) {(1995-08-19)} instead, but that isn't working.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Duplicates impossible to merge.

So I got a response via email saying:
"Thank you for your message.

We have looked into this and found that it is possible to change the title type and name, you may find it easier to convert the titles into an episode under the series and then merge episodes.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Jaime
IMDb Customer Service"

I saw they merged the first one in the list but when I tried to merge the second one, I got the same error.
This problem needs to be fixed.
I know it's possible to first change them into episodes and then merge them but that takes twice as much time. Plus this issue needs to be solved for future edits.

I already changed them from feature films into episodes.
They're all from the year 1995.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0222648/episodes?year=1995

But now I STILL can't merge them because of a different error.
I tried to merge this one:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10822448/
with:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2233491/?ref_=ttep_ep9
apparently the episode's name (because it doesn't have a name) is
"(1995-02-04)"
So when I merge them I get this error:
"The episode title contains '1995-02-04' and this is probably a mistake. Please use the official episode title as it appears on screen. If this episode is untitled, there is no need to include the air date as an unofficial title. Please leave the episode title blank if the episode has no formal official title."

So how do I merge this? It's impossible.
There's 24 of these titles.
Cheers.

Phil G, thanks for responding. Yes I forgot to mention that, but I've tried that too.
That way you just remove the "(1995-02-04)" and make it blank, but it won't merge them.
Cheers.

One thing that may work is to merge the untitled episode "WCW Saturday Night" (1985) {(1995-02-04)} into "WCW Saturday Night" (1985) {Episode dated 4 February1995}. You get warnings but it does at least lead to a form that you can submit.

If approved I think you may end up with the title whichever way round the merge is done, but it will end up as tt2233491 with tt10822448 redirecting there. The lower number becomes the primary no matter which way round the merge is done. I believe that the merge direction makes a difference to the title only when both have titles and to other data that conflicts between the two. In general all data from both ends up on the merged title which may need some cleaning up afterwards.

If the merge works then you can go back and submit a title deletion.

If you add an explanation that the title is there just to work around this problem then a data editor processing it may be able to remove the title while processing the merge.

Isn't it ridiculous how much work goes into this, when none of it was needed if the staff didn't approve the duplicate entry in the first place?
*sigh*

Anyway, I'll try that. Thanks for reaching out.

Ok, I've already merged them all and made the titles blank.
This was a good idea, so thank you Owen Rees.
Cheers!

I am glad it worked. The original problem still needs to be fixed but at least we have a workaround, at least for the cases where one of the episodes has a title or number (or both).

If there are two date only episodes that need merging I thing we are still out of luck for that case. I think that could happen if the episode is run in a different country at a different date and both are added separately.
