Deletion of Data on Get satisfaction community

I signed up to the Get Satisfaction company twice in the past to ask questions and both times deleted my account when the problems were resolved. It would seem that the questions I asked are still however publicly visible despite my accounts being deleted. I do not want these to still be visible as they publicly identify me and I want them removed. Links below

Hi Jack,

My 2 cents:
As heralded on the home page, this is a public forum, so anything posted here is deemed to be and remain public.
Moreover, the 2 questions you have asked are very common: you could have spared yourself from creating a profile (let alone: 2) and exposing yourself by just searching the forum and getting the answers you were searching.

Now, let us see what the IMDb response will be.

I understand your point, but i should be able to delete data I have uploaded when I chose to delete the profiles. I also have privacy rights with GDPR as its identifiable information. :)

I was not aware that I could not do that, and nowhere does it state 'data will not be deleted even after account closure'. I have read the privacy policy.

Jack,

GDPR can be invoked by EU citizen. If this is your case, the previous similar topics here mentioned to contact the help desk at https://help.imdb.com/contact.
I hope this can prove helpful and useful as we do not hear of the outcome.

Firstly, GDPR laws in the EU also give me rights over data which is “personally identifiable” that means if there’s information which can personally identify me and I don’t want it there, i have rights. Secondly, to inform me all of my data and “content” would then be deleted but then keeping it public is also a breach of my privacy. My partner studies law, I have checked all of this out before asking my question.

Lawful basis for processing

Unless a data subject has provided informed consent to data processing for one or more purposes, personal data may not be processed unless there is at least one legal basis to do so. According to Article 6, the lawful purposes are:

  • (a) If the data subject has given consent to the processing of his or her personal data;
  • (b) To fulfill contractual obligations with a data subject, or for tasks at the request of a data subject who is in the process of entering into a contract;
  • (c) To comply with a data controller's legal obligations;
  • (d) To protect the vital interests of a data subject or another individual;
  • (e) To perform a task in the public interest or in official authority;
  • (f) For the legitimate interests of a data controller or a third party, unless these interests are overridden by interests of the data subject or her or his rights according to the Charter of Fundamental Rights. (especially in the case of children).
IMDb operates under subparagraph (e).

You are on Get Satisfaction.
See Spriklr.
You are only "Jack" here.

Link #1 you provided above has no personal data attached.

It's only link within is dead https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topi...
https://m.imdb.com/name/nm9618109/
"The requested URL was not found on our server."
Error 404

Link #2 you provided also https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topi...

It shows data you willingly provided.
However you could request that your email screenshot be removed.
That should have been taken out after you listed it. I'm sure that was an oversight as that portion was not readily seen.

Now we will wait for IMDb to respond.
I am curious too.

Cheers Jack.

I am aware it’s a public forum, several companies operate public support forums... That is not my point. Once I “delete” my account and I am told my “content will be deleted” I expect that to happen. I have a right to delete what I have posted.

Hello, What you are referring to is a separate issue. I am now more concerned about getting these removed from this forum. In answer to your question, I have invoked GDPR and the ICO have assured me I have legal rights to get these removed.

But GDPR has to be invoked with GS (not ICO! :)
Maybe you can check this page: https://getsatisfaction.com/corp/about/contact/
and try this: https://getsatisfaction.com/getsatisfaction/private?requested=https%3A%2F%2Fgetsatisfaction.com%2Fge... after creating a different account... :(

The ICO have a live chat service and I spoke with them earlier about this. I wanted to get advice legally before pursuing this any further. And since IMDb haven’t responded to this request I am within my legal rights to file the complaint with the ICO. As they process EU Citizens data they have a duty to respond. I have also emailed GS as the publisher of the community.

Nowhere does it say “after you delete your account we will retain your content”

https://getsatisfaction.com/corp/privacy-policy/:
We believe that it is important to the integrity of a conversation to maintain the entire conversation thread, so we do not permit you to delete a post once you have submitted it. In certain circumstances, such as if your post has not been commented on, it may be possible to alter or delete it, but since this is not always available, we ask that you carefully consider what you post before submitting it. Instructions for deleting information you have submitted can be found in the section of this Privacy Policy entitled “Modifying or Deleting your Information and Account Settings.”
Granted IMDb Community forum administrators have the technical capacity to delete posts in the forum to correspond, there is nothing in IMDb policy including a guarantee to do that.

Rather the part to be quoted is...
Any posts you've made in the community before the date of termination will be retained.  You understand and acknowledge that copies of information you submit may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or if other Users have copied or stored your content.
...in the section under the heading "Modifying or Deleting Your Information and Account Settings". The previous one is in the section under heading "

To all, please never post anything on any website without reading the terms of service and privacy policy first. Do not even sign up without reading those things first.

I second what Jeorj said and what I already said. There is a warning on the Get Satisfaction home page. Even if this entire post along with the other 2 were gone, they would still come up on the internet anyway. You are mistaken thinking that elimination here, eliminates it there. It does not.

Also we don't know your full name as it is not here for anyone to see. So how are we to determine if your so called search directs anyone to the 2 pages in question?
Your say so. There is no proof that the statement you have made is fact.

As long as there is continuing dialog, this gets pushed back in line for a response.
We should just stop replying and wait patiently for staff.
Cheers all.

Vincent I know why there is no response.
Was reading Get Satisfactions terms of service.
Missed this little part.
