Staff: can you remove artcles about someone else from my IMDb Name Page?

Hi.

My IMDb page is 'Tim Lawrence II' and for some reason there is an alternative spelling listing (Tim Laurence). There is only one way to spell my name. How can I delete the alternate? This alternate spelling causes 'articles' to be attached to my page that have nothing to do with me, usually some British Royal 'Laurence' nonsense. How can I delete this alternate?

Thank you.

~T.~

Your page lists an actor credit for which you were credited that way on screen. Does that credit not belong to you? It's for A Very Retail Christmas.

If spelled wrong in the on screen credits then it's documented correctly and cannot be changed. IMDb does not allow for accurate data to be removed.

Okay, but it's loading up my page with articles that have nothing to do with me. I'd rather just delete the credit altogether.

Perhaps staff can jump in and help out with the articles issue. In the mean time, there should be a link to "report a problem" at the end of the articles. Did you try reporting them for being linked to the wrong person?

As to removing a credit that is accurate, as I said, IMDb does not do that. If they won't remove part of the credit, they certainly won't remove the whole thing which would make two pages incomplete and inaccurate (the page about you and the page about the title).

Hi. Thanks. I have reported the article issue. They removed one and left the other 8 even though I specifically indicated that all the articles were wrongly attached. When I tried to report individually I was told I couldn't send more than one request a day. Spend 8 days correcting this simple issue?Seems wasteful.

I don't imagine it was reviewed by staff that quickly...more likely it was suppressed pending review and think they might all get removed if that's what you reported. I hope you don't mind but I edited the title of your post to attract attention to the actual problem so that staff might be able to correct how those are tagged and perhaps do something so the problem doesn't return.

Good luck! I hope it all gets fixed up for you!

Hi.

One more thing -

Thank you for the conversation. But I still don't understand. The policy seems arbitrary and inconsistent because I can open almost any IMDb credit page and see somewhere in the listing: "(uncredited)" behind a name that isn't in the original credits but is on your page, spelled correctly. I'm asking for the same consideration. 25 years ago production got my name wrong and now IMDb is perpetuating the error. It is such a simple thing: turn the 'u' into a 'w'. Please? I can prove who I am. I can send pix of my driver's license and SAG card.

Thanks,

~T.~

I see what you're saying but IMDb is actually documenting what's in the credits while allowing that it be explained as being in error. If they show the name one way while credits say something different, then the site is of no use to its users. Also, anyone seeing a different spelling in the credits might submit to move the credit off your page and give it to a non-existant person. You lose the credit, users get confused and IMDb becomes known for being inaccurate. IMDb is meant to be as complete and accurate of a source of info for its users as possible. Not documenting the error helps no one.

Take a look at Christopher Walken's credit for Annie Hall...same situation. But it's documented correctly. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000686/

Sorry about that. The news article links are gone now and this should not happen again now.
