Deactivate url affix?

Hello,

is it possible to deactivate that the url get these strange appendices like this:
imdb.com/title/tt0085244/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_72
It's really annoying, that you don't just get the imdb link when you click somewhere. Because when you get these appendices, the browser (obviously) doesn't count that site as watched and the link doesn't change its color, when you see it on another page.
For example: i click movie A on the list of actor A and i will be directed to title/movieA/?bla1. So the color in the list of actor A will be changed to site visited. Then i go to actor B and movie A is still listed as site not visited yet, because the link on that site is title/movieA/?bla2. And if i just open the site under title/movieA/, both lists for the actors might be unvisited.
I'm talking only about the color here, not the watchlist feature etc.

Any idea on how to go back to just follow links without these appendices? I'm almost certain, that this linking method wasn't the case 1-2 years ago.

Thanks and kind regards,
Erika

Hi there,
Thank you for your message.

"?ref_=" is an internal tool used in the URL of relevant pages to track the activity of visits to/from applicable IMDb pages. Please note that this is not a tool that tracks individual users, but used to build context around popular and related pages.

Best regards,

I wish an explanation would be provided as to why there is a need for building such a context. To visitors to the site, it can be an inconvenience for the reasons explained by the creator of this topic.

@Jeorj Euler:
i found this info somewhere else:
While optional URL parameters may be useful to webmasters and marketers, they don't offer any benefit to internet users, they may make the URL harder to read, and extend the URL when it is shared or used in blog posts.

Hi, Erika Gabler. I feel your concerns. You should probably look around for a third party web browser extension that accomplishes the task. I'm not aware of one, but so I created and use a monkey script that serves such a purpose.

I'm testing the Firefox addon Neat URL now, but it doesn't seem to work properly for IMDb at first glance.

My opinion is that it is a tracker, so IMDb site managers can monitor the user navigation throughout the site (it obviously shows how one got to that specific page).
I know there are several technologies enabling this, it is only one of them, probably the easiest to implement, but surely the most convenient ans user friendly.
But I am also afraid it is linked to the site architecture and database supplier, and cannot be changed easily.
Anyway, as usual, an official IMDb response will be welcome.

Do you already have a name page on IMDb or is this a brand new listing?

If you are already listed, which one of these is you ->
https://www.imdb.com/find?q=John%20Martin&s=nm&exact=true&ref_=fn_al_nm_ex

I would like to disable this tracking tool for my account and only get the "real" links. With all users, who just visit the site for a quick check up, you guys should enough data. I think you could tolerate to not use the data of people like me, who frequently use the site and who are bummed out about this :)

Hi! Claire, Official Rep

When Someone posts a REF link here on GS
and a hundred folks click on it
IMDb May think the link was found on the REF page
not GS
