Colon in release date attributes

A technical problem:

The major documentary festival in Copenhagen is called CPH:DOX. When contributors add festival dates as release dates and put the festival name in the attribute box, the system parses the colon as a delimiter and adds a space:

In the field browser in the update form you can see that there are 347 instances of the attribute "CPH"; these are probably all cases of such a festival attribute being wrongly parsed.

Is there any way the form or the processing could be adjusted to avoid this? Perhaps colons should not be allowed?

For this festival, I have avoided the colon and used "CPHDOX Festival" in the past, but I may prefer "CPH DOX" in the future since it may be the more obvious choice. CPH PIX is another Copenhagen festival which is now spelled without the colon, which is confusing, but also helpful.

(Data example from City of Ghosts (2017), corrected to remove the colon in #170321-131426-605000).

Hi Peter,

Thanks for highlighting this, we have fixed the attributes as follows

(CPH DOX)  > (CPH:DOX)
(CPH: DOX) > (CPH:DOX)

Just to clarify, do you think
(CPHPIX Festival)  should become (CPH:PIX Festival)  or remain as is?
(CPHDOX Festival) should become (CPH:DOX Festival) or remain as is?

Thanks,
Marv

Yes, we made a small tweak and tested it earlier in the week. We believe this has now been fixed. Please feel free to try for yourself and let us know if you are still experiencing any issues.

Thank you. I have submitted a test.

If you'd like, you could change (CPHDOX Festival) to (CPH:DOX) for consistency.

(CPHPIX Festival) could also be changed to (CPH:PIX). However, that festival removed the colon from its name a few years ago, so most newer entries will be under (CPH PIX). It might make sense to make them all (CPH PIX).

Thanks for getting back so quickly. We will make the change from
(CPHDOX Festival) to (CPH:DOX)
(CPHPIX Festival) to (CPH:PIX)

Do you know what year CPH PIX changed to remove the colon?

I shouldn't have said a few years, It looks like the colon was gone from their website by 2011. The festival only started in 2009.

A follow-up on this: While it is now possible to add (CPH:DOX) as an attribute and this is displayed correctly when it goes live, the field browser still lists only the "CPH" part, so the attribute is not fully recognised in the update system.

I just submitted another date for CPH:DOX, but got this warning, which recognizes only the first part:

I also tried CPH PIX (no colon), but got this one:

That warning was not there when I last added dates for this festival a month ago.

The field browser does display the attributes with colons, but no longer CPH PIX without the colon even though this is the one I have been using for years (as explained earlier in this thread).

My submissions are still live on site, e.g.

Something's rotten.
