Character name not updated in quotes

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095542/quotes - the cast and characters were recently updated, so their names should be reflected in the quotes section (the quotes were submitted sometime beforehand).

Slightly different to this issue, I believe: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/character-not-appearing-in-quotes-pulldown

Hi Chen,

Thanks for your message, which characters are you referring to? When were the credits added?

Regards,
Will

The character options that appear in the drop-down menu in the submission interface for adding quotes are outdated: https://contribute.imdb.com/updates?update=tt0095542:quotes.add.1.

The names can be edited in the quote submission form (choose "Other").

Character names for quotes can differ from the cast list, by design.

Good point about by design.

Just curious Peter, but what design would be needed to have character names differ from the cast list? Maybe when an actor plays multiple parts?

I guess there are various cases. Part of it is mentioned in the guidelines: "The pulldown menus for names and characters on the submission form may contain different versions of a character's name. This is because we prefer to list the name as it is used throughout the movie, rather than the full name from the credits ..."

There are also all the non-fiction titles with character names formatted as "Himself - Host", etc., which doesn't make much sense in a quotes page.

If they use a different name that isn't in the credits, it can make it hard to match up quotes with the characters when you are watching the feature. I agree with the Himself stuff but i guess I haven't paid much attention to quotes attached to talk shows/documentaries.

Jimmy Lee and Andy (or Andy Yau, as it was on your entry) were the English-dubbed names; Lei Kwok-Lap and Yau respectively are how they appear in the end credits and how they sound in the Cantonese version.

The credits were updated about a week ago.

Hi Chen -

Thanks for confirming the character names, it's likely that the data is stuck in our system and needs to be pushed through.  I have filed a ticket for our technical team to investigate the cause and a fix, as soon as I have an update on the status I will let you know here.

Is there any update on this. I noticed this night after updating the character names Curse of the Undead. I updated the character names to follow the credits and "Preacher Dan Young" to "Preacher Dan" and "Dr. John Carter" to "Dr. Carter". It seems like the character names should be dynamic lookups in case the data changes instead of statically whatever they were when the quotes were submitted.
