Catering has been replace by caterer in accordance to IMDB rules

There are 902 entries for catering but you have a rule.
Mostly, I've seen that all rules need to be deleted in favour of on-screen accuracy

The pulldown list includes the most common job titles. For other job titles, please choose "other" and either type it in or choose it from the browser (the icon). Please note that the job titles should reflect the person, not the task. In other words, use "script editor" instead of "script editing"; "weapons consultant" instead of "weapons consulting"; "translator" instead of "translation";

"caterer" instead of "catering".

Are you referring to this rule?
If not, are you posing an Idea to change a rule.
You are not being very clear

Could you please clarify Marhleet
Thanks
Cheers

yes, I could, but, again, I didn't ask you to help

it has, now, been a long standing rule, that I helped bring into being, that accuracy over a job title is preferred

but, anyway, if there is a rule, that PROHIBITS me from editing, but yet there are 902 entries IN EXISTENCE

just goes back to my idea of STOP TRYING TO HELP

Marhleet, stop this childish nonsense of posting here and asking not to be helped. If you want direct contact with IMDb staff, you already have been told to use the contact form.

Now, you are raising a good question.
I think the existing 902 entries may date back before the rule was implemented.
What is not clear, at least to me, is what does prohibit you/us from doing what?

That would be the rule ... that ...

Did you even read the title ?
Lord, there is more of them

If I ask help desk I get dumb help desk staff who don’t even understand help questions
This gets me Michelle or that other bloke and actual action

I read the rules. "caterer" should be used by rule.
The descriptions second line MAKES Zero sense.

Mostly, I've seen that all rules need to be deleted in favour of on-screen accuracy

What Rule need deleted?
Or do you really mean ALL OTHER CHOICES need to be deleted?
Thanks
And please actually answer instead of complaining.
Thanks again

Marhleet,

Express yourself clearly and in proper English, and you will notice that everything will become smooth and swift...

I figure, Owen Rees is the only person ready, willing and able to answer the kinds of problems to which marhleet inarticulately draws attention (and I mean no offense by using that particular adverb since it is basically true and also an explanation for the alleged "uselessness" of the Help Desk correspondents), but I will hold out hope that Peter or gromit82 may have some input too, at some point, this week.

Do you have a previous screenshot that shows that the number INCREASED to 902?
Or has it stayed the same for quite some time.
Or are you asking that it be allowed to be used for accuracy?
What are you trying to accomplish with this post?
You have not made it clear.
Thanks

There are these that have been done according to rule.
902 mistakes. You have NO Idea if those 902 were rejected. Or if they were corrected. Or removed.
There was 902 incorrectly submitted Caterings.
So what.
There are these correct ones. 25,562 according to the rule.

This would not pass the editors. But it would put it on the list of options as 1, caterer idiot savant

It would certainly help you, and Vincent, to get another reprimand for being nice.

If you don’t seem to understand the problem ...

There is no problem here.
Just an imaginary one.
Perceived only by you.

My guess is that the entries listed as "catering" in the field browser are actually mostly modified entries such as "catering: Cate's Catering" or "catering: Los Angeles".

Another rather confusing thread with many useless posts.

Do I understand this correctly: Marhleet, with ”a rule”, do you mean this part from the IMDb guide ( https://help.imdb.com/article/contrib...# ):

**
”Please note that the job titles should reflect the person, not the task. In other words, use "script editor" instead of "script editing"; "weapons consultant" instead of "weapons consulting"; "translator" instead of "translation"; "caterer" instead of "catering".
**

Now, while this may be true, there are probably many variations included in IMDb of various job titles. I believe IMDb staff should comment that will the ”job titles reflecting the person” rule overwrite the ”on-screen accuracy” every time?

Mostly, I've seen that all rules need to be deleted in favour of on-screen accuracy

This should be worded as follows:

I was wondering if the IMDb might revisit the rules and drop them in favor of true accuracy. That way the on screen credit matches whats in the database.

Marhleet, Kind Sir,
This is an Idea and not a problem categorization issue.
Thanks
Cheers.

P.S.
Tell me this extrapolation is wrong.
I doubt that you can.
It took me sleeping on it before i realized what you were getting at.
Help would be easier to achieve if you helped all be being more articulate in the future.

Now lets see what IMDb says about changing their misc crew guidelines above.

Oh while we are at it, your heading should have been.

Could the IMDb revisit the rule policy regarding categorization of job title description in the misc crew section?

You would have never seen Vincent or I or anybody for that matter asking what you meant.
Thanks again
Cheers

Well, if it was something new that needed to be redressed, I might ask.
But as this is already a known issue, the posted rules being out of date, and on screen accuracy being a thing desired, I got that started years ago asking about writers, and it was agreed it applies everywhere, and as other rules have been removed, on-line v online, and as none of you are staff, and again, I didn’t ask for your help, as usual

It makes me wonder why you try to help, again.

Your understanding of how to edit data is not in question.
You do good work.
Very good work.
But.............
Your skills in conveying your thoughts in English are, shall we say, "lacking clarity".
We help you because we want The IMDb people to understand "What you mean"
That's all.
When we see that you are not conveying what is necessary to solve your issues, we try to translate what you say into what you mean.
That's all.
We are not trying to be difficult.
We are not singling you out.
We want you to get an answer to your queries.
That's all.
Cheers

You won't look so..............Smart?
That get satisfaction topic points out my very point here.
Your lack of communication skills.

LOOK at your response.

Adrian got accomplished what you could not for years.
This was because he explained it correctly and provided the visuals.
Something you don't do well.

Points out my point, exactly.
I knew exactly what he was talking about because I do edits and I knew what he was looking at without him explaining it.

You, not so much

Marhleet please don't reply to this. You have a valid point, that needs to be addressed. So let me restate this at the bottom so an IMDb employee can make a decision.

Could the IMdb please remove all the rules restrictions stated in this help topic so that it more accurately reflects what is on the screens of all titles. That way the database is accurate with respect to billing name choices chosen by the producers of the said titles?

From the help topic:
The pulldown list includes the most common job titles. For other job titles, please choose "other" and either type it in or choose it from the browser (the icon). Please note that the job titles should reflect the person, not the task. In other words, use "script editor" instead of "script editing"; "weapons consultant" instead of "weapons consulting"; "translator" instead of "translation": "caterer" instead of "catering".

If the change is not made it would contradict this.

The IMDb aims to be the most comprehensive and reliable source of information on movies, TV and celebrities. We are committed to accuracy.
