Can't update and merge names.

My original page is Gabriel Kissinger (I).  When I went to search myself I found Gabriel Kissinger (I) and (II).  There is absolutely nothing on the second "Gabriel Kissinger" page and so I tried to "Update Name" and merge the two names together.  When I go to do that there is no merge selection, instead it says "if the title or name you are trying to update was added to the database only recently, it may not yet be available for updates. Please try again in a few hours."  How do I fix this if it wants to be left untouched?  It's been like this for a while.
