Title Pages: Can IMDb have pictures of the characters that the voice actors of an animation portray next to the voice actor?

When viewing the voice cast list of an animation movie or a movie where people do voices of animals then it would be nice to have a picture of that character or animal next to the picture of the voice actor so that one can see which character that voice actor portray.

While that sounds like a neat idea; I'm not sure who would ultimately end up responsible for adding and sorting that volume of content. Or what the costs involved would be.

As it currently works, even the actors must pay to have their pictures hosted on IMDB

The filmograpny list is primarily a link between the person and the film. For this reason the person's headshot is shown, if one exists.

There are a number of problems with showing Character pictures; it is not uncommon for one person to voice several roles in a single project. Imagine the problems of showing the pictures for Dan Castellaneta on The Simpsons Series page where his character is :

Wow! I hope the producers pay the man accordingly. :)

While I do agree that there are many television series and films where one person does the voice for many characters I would tend to think that a voice actor is usually perceived to be associated with one main character in that series or film and that is the character picture I think should be included in the cast list along with the headshot of the actor.

The reason for this idea is that I have on many occasions watched a movie and later recognised a voice actor's voice in another movie and then went back to the original movie not recalling what the name of the character was but remembering what that character looked like. The character picture would help to find which voice actor did the voice for that character.

I am not clued up on how IMDB is run and how it is financed so if something like this leads to a massive financial strain then obviously it would weigh heavily on the side of "lets not do it". Unfortunately "costly = lets not do it" might also keep other future changes from happening and you might agree that a website's success is regularly coupled with how it changes and adapts. I acknowledge though that each costly change should be well inspected and decided upon.

Me Us,
According to Wikipedia, the cast members took a pay cut a few years ago and now 'only' earn $300,000 per 20 minute episode...so for sure he is not paid accordingly, although in the eyes of most working people, it would be that he is ridiculously overpaid (I'm sure his agent sees it a different way).

The average annual wage in the US in 2012 was $42,500 per year....Castellaneta earns that for 3 minutes of a single Simpsons episode...but I digress....

There is an issue of effort in making a change you propose, but the key thing is that someone has to get the pictures and then manually apply them - and this is before you realize that, as David points out, there is no an one-solution-fits-all deal here...

Ultimately, it would be a huge effort for comparatively little gain, when a Google search would have got you the information within a few minutes....

It is a good idea - and one that could be extended to all titles (to show the character, not the real actor) but the challenges associated with even working out a working system (far less implementing it) would be significant...

The next issue would be this kind of policy would likely be expected to extend to actors in heavy makeup or wearing monster suits where a character looks significantly different from the actors normal appearance.

As it stands, just ensuring that the credits list includes accurate listings of what a person played should be enough to search for images of those characters.

IMDB already has the ability to create character pages. So if a particular character is popular enough to warrant its own page, than the images you need to verify who someone is playing may already be on IMDB somewhere:
http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0003013/?ref_=fn_al_ch_1

Which is doubly useful for long running cartoon characters so that you can see if they were played by more than one voice actor over the years:
http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0003013/?ref_=fn_al_ch_1

So it's just my opinion but I think the character page serves much of the function that you may be looking for in finding what a character looks like; it's just one click deeper by clicking the character name.

Otherwise, as has been mentioned. Googles image search is going to be far wider than just IMDBs picture database for more obscure characters.

Thank you Vincent, bob and David for your comments. I appreciate your input and I must admit that such an undertaking may be unwarranted.

Thank you again.
