Bring back the message boards

Can we please have the message board feature back? Often at times I want to ask the community that could recommend me similar movies based on a movie I liked. There's no way to do that any more.

There should be a discussion board for each title page , where we can ask viewers for similar movies.

Ed,

It would have been ironic if your post (https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/bring-back-the-message-boards-kagcf9asfcsmy?topic-reply-list...) triggered the spam filter.

IMDb will have to find a way to end the raging abuse of the boards before they consider bringing them back. There may be a couple of ways they can do this.

(1) Minds.com is experimenting with a new reporting system. When the staff receives a report of abuse, they make the first decision on whether to act on it. A punished user can appeal the decision, which then goes to a group of randomly selected users.

The randomness makes the decision likely to be fair. The staff can be biased. An elite group of users who get to make all judgments would be biased and subject to corruption. But a randomly selected group, different every time, would almost guarantee a fair judgment.

(2) IMDb could charge for access to the message boards. Trolls and other abusers are less likely to pay than a user who wants to have civil and productive conversations. The few trolls who do pay for entry can be easily managed and removed.

Good idea in theory. Unimplementable. Eventually the P.C. type think will creep in and brutally honest replies will become unacceptable. When politeness is valued above honest diatribe, honesty will be labelled as abusive and that honest but tactless diatribe and it's user will be banned.

No. Sorry.
It will never work.

why is twitter or facebook immune from abuse and trolling? The system of peer reporting on the message boards was adequate and not much different from a couple of your ideas. Theaters have closed, we need a message by topic listed only imdb had.  Interaction is limited when movies are only being streamed now.

Hey I miss the boards too. But there were too many A-Holes. It was fun. But there are those that ruined it.
A need by one person does not mean a need for all.

Bill Graham: Twitter and Facebook are not immune to abuse; but on both platforms you have a lot of control over your experience. On IMDb, you had very little control. One determined troll or group of trolls could ruin your experience.
