Bring back IMDb Poll section in the Homepage

Hello IMDB staff.

I wanted to reach you with the proposition to return the IMDb Poll as a separate section in the Homepage.

Beyond the personal preferences over the new layout, the new Home Page experience came as a blow to the Poll Community, as our section lost the featured place it had managed to get after many years of hard work and passion working on the poll.

While the poll is accesible in the Editor's pick section, it is a place were it is much more hidden than before, and the reduced visibility has impacted in terms of votes, as the featured poll in the editor's section manages to get around a fifth part of the votes that it used to get when it had a separate section.

This has also hurt the rest of the polls as there are fewer users reaching the polls section.

Since the new design went live, several sections have returned to the homepage as it was revealed removing them was reducing visits, and now the Top News, the Coming Soon and the Born Today sections have returned. I feel there is no reason to also return the poll to its separate section.

Many people in the poll community will thank you for this.

Watching the homepage, there seems to be two very similar sections, one is 'Explore waht's streaming' that recommends titles streaming on Amazon Prime; the other is 'Top Picks', with personal recommendations that also takes you to Amazon Primer viewing options, so you could consider they are roughly the same and they could be merged and making room to have the IMDb Poll back. Otherwise, there's no harm in putting it back in a new section in the page.

Thanks for considering this.

Nope, it doesn't.

"Malcolm in the Middle" should've been in that Top 5 :)

Good try, Pencho :)

I doubt they'd listen. But who knows?

The last time it was there, I also asked for it, it took some months, but it eventually got promoted. So there's no harm in asking again.

I'd like to see Polls on the home page. Not Just a Poll. Have a sliding bar just like the rest of the page. That way once a week the Poll bar can highlight the previous weeks best polls for the next 7 days.
More exposure is better. It keeps the prevailing theme intact and gives many more authors showcasing.

That's a great idea. A slider showing all recent polls would highlight the enormous quantity of quality content there is. Also the hide polls you've taken could be added there so that every person can find those polls he hasn't voted on right in the homepage.
I have always believed more variety in the homepage poll would help, but I had never imagined we could have all of them in there.

Dear IMDb Editors,

Please consider what the genuine IMDb Users want from this website at least once in this lifetime.

We were sad when you closed IMDb message board, we became hopeless when you deactivated IMDb Character pages, but ultimately we lost all our interests from IMDb after the 'Netflix' like changeover of the Home Page and Polls lost it's space from the separate section in the Home Page.

We would be grateful if you kindly bring back the separate section of the polls at the Home Page and that's all we, the IMDb Poll Board members, need to something cheer for at least.

Thank you.

DC

[As a protest, I am not going to make/suggest any new polls until IMDb bring back the separate section of polls in the Home Page. All my previously suggested polls suggestions will be active and if our Poll Admins find those useful they can select those to publish. But no new suggestions will come from me.]

While I don't agree with the protest, Dibyayan was one of the most talented and prolific poll creators, and the best there is for creating polls choosen to be featured in the homepage, just having him back is a great reason to make this little but important change.

We miss you Dib.

I don't think they're going to bring back the poll section, not like that anyway.

Cheerful, isn't it? :)

Polls now are a small cog in a large machine, it's not significant enough to have its own space, this is why it's been put in the IMDb editors' section. It's exactly like Netflix or Prime Video, there's got to be categories, one element can't be allowed an autonomous existence distinct from other items that are part of a specific category (Featured Today, News, Interviews etc.)

So it's not a matter of our polls, after all, they kept them (for the moment), but it's a matter of categorization, maybe what we should ask for is to have a section of the HP for users, that sounds crazy but why not?

Top Users' section, let's have our little banner with a randomly picked trivia, a randomly picked quote, a highlight on a user's list of favorite this or that, and have one poll or two polls. And how about a highlight on users' reviews for a change?

We must think big, if we beg for a little section, given the new layout, I can't see this thing working, but if we ask seriously for a section dedicated to users and not just poll makers, maybe it can work. I don't know.

And I'm not being pessimistic, I'm as angry as the next user,  sometimes when I look at offerings such as "The Evolution of [random young star who didn't time to evolve much in a ten-year spanning career]", or "The Style of [a director with trademarks though he/she made only 3 films so far but two or three narrative patterns already make up for auteurship]"  I'm like "why can't we have our little poll right there in that section, it's not like it would be a waste in space". *

So, that's how I feel about it, if we think big and ask for a users section, maybe we can get something substantial, if not, we'll get peanuts.

Cheers!

* And don't get me started on that [Caret Mulligan looks like Michelle Williams] thing, I swear I saw that thing on the HP more than my own polls lol.

This is a narrow minded view of the overall impact from a marketing standpoint. The new Homepage is about promoting all that is "New" and has links to Amazon for all that is "New" in video.

But here is what You and IMDb are not contemplating. We make polls that don't necessarily fit the "New" pattern that this is supposed to be the main purpose of the change. The selections in our polls many times reflect older titles and at the same time "New" titles.

This should be a "Win Win" for Amazon. A user looks at the polls, takes them, and is introduced to some associated titles she/he would never be introduced to if it were not for the polls we make.

Holy Cow Batman!
Amazon will MOST DEFINITELY benefit from increased revenue of streaming or DVD sales.

This should be a no brainer for Amazon/IMDb.

I only hope the see the potential for revenue.

Ed Jones,

Yes, they could sell by featuring polls about less-known movies,

But ultimately many polls are marketing for them.

Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I know the new, popular, trending stuff.
Always make more cash than the old/vintage.

They don't necessarily want to put the spotlight on older movies because anyway, these movies are sold on Amazon for 1/3 of the price of the newest Blu-ray.

To give an example:

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker [Blu-ray + Digital] (Bilingual) $26.99

or on

4-Movie Marathon: Western Collection $7.97

In other words, they prefer to sell 10 000 copy of a popular and trending movie which cost almost $30 than on 100 copies of a 4 Movie package at $8.

This is also why I believe that the "Most Anticipated" category of polls is the one that has the most odds to be featured on the Homepage because indirectly, it sells more films and videogames on Amazon than any other type of polls.

It does not matter.
You statement is near-sighted.
You are NOT displacing revenue.
You are adding revenue where there was none.
Please FOCUS.

Are you in a bad mood, Ed?
Calling people narrow minded and near sighted, what is this?
There's been enough negative vibes in this board today... surely we can have peaceful discussions without using adjectives...

ElMo. I'm very rarely in a bad mood.
And I'm peaceful.
Our definitions of peaceful are obviously different.
I can use kinder adjectives and verbiage that is more PC, but what is the point.
They still mean the same thing in the end.
I'm 65. I don't act like a 40 year old.
I am what I am.

I don't disagree with the fact that they could feature polls about older movies,
but I'm didn't see any practical recommendations on your post.

I'm saying, that at the of the day, they prefer to display polls about trending movies than polls about a fifty years old movie.

Of course, I think that they could display both, it could be profitable to users, and as a *pollmaker*, I think that it could give us more visibility.

I think that what would be a good way to promote us would be  to create a section that similar to the "What to Watch" of the homepage,

It would use cookies to suggest polls that could interest users.

I made a prototype of what it could be, for me it would be a dream, but it is unlikely that IMDb takes that under consideration.

There is my prototype:

* Like you, I don't have the pollmaker badge, but I consider us Pollmakers because we frequently suggest polls.*

Look, one more time.
Not all polls have all new movies only.
Not all polls have all Old Movies only.
The more polls that are made noticeable to a user, the more sales for Amazon.
Simplicity.
You are viewing it from a narrowed perspective.
All Polls are not created to be narrow. Maybe yours are. Mine are anything but narrow. I try as best as possible to create polls with choices that are varied. This is what frustrates you about contributing to my polls. You once complained that I make it "Too Hard" for you to find titles to suggest for my polls.
So my polls would be better for business as far as Amazon is concerned, while yours would be good.
I'm sorry but I cannot make it any simpler.

Just checking back in with support for this. Just got my 4th HPP, but I'm not optimistic that it will surpass the previous polls 1747 votes garnered by Bonefide.

Not yet, But I barely got five homepage polls with the previous layout, so I'll have to be patient.
Since the poll is barely visible in the new homepage and I no longer use it to enter the site, I can't be sure, but it seems as if they are changing it less frequently, which is an additional shame.

In the last weeks, they were changing the homepage poll every week on Friday/Saturday.

Also, I don't care anymore if the new homepage brings more votes or not. My ONLY homepage poll has brought me 7k votes on approximately a career of 24k votes. For me, that is a good ratio.

It still makes a difference, since the rate of votes in the homepage poll and in the rest of the poll got roughly a similar reduction when it stopped being visible. So it is still a reason to celebrate if you are selected.

If Home Page Poll stats are down XX%, then it stands to reason that an equal amount of Home Page visits must be down by a percentage amount that is close to that same reduction.

When will this failed redesign end?
